Impressive photos from a French photographer...

Meh. Some nice captures. But I see this sort of over-done exploitive documentary style everywhere these days.

Notice how he doesn't list the gear he uses? Probably all done using photoshop filters. Not sure how he got the book deal.

😉

good consistent work.

it's hardly possible to put out this at 17 🙂 as it takes some time (or conditions) to develop such sense.

on not listing gear - I think some people just not need to. I wish I could omit it 🙂

Why do you think it is exploitive? His common subject is nomadic life. What kind of photoshop filters are you talking about? I dont see any except maybe increased contrast, and maybe sharpness.

Thanks for the link Leicaforever! Great photos indeed. I will follow his Flickr stream from now on.

Cyrille (a RFF fellow) has been on my radar for a while, absolutely fantastic material. I wish he'll make a photo book I can buy.

I have to say I don't find these images over manipulated at all, interesting we all see something different.

For me this thread points out one of the things I like bast about our chosen collective hobby/profession... the beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. These images are quite nice but generally do not make me jump out of my chair. For others, they are absolutely wonderful.

One image that caught my eye from this guy was this one, very intense.

Oh dear. Did not one of you notice the winky face?

With the reference to Frank's flckr related post in this one, I thought I could not possibly be misunderstood. I was being silly. And, unknowingly, foolish.

😱

Sorry for misunderstanding, now I see you 😀

Sarcasm is one of the more difficult language characteristics to convey in writing. Don't feel too bad. 🙂 Just be glad you guys didn't end up in a flame war.

To the OP, there's some very interesting stuff there. I'm a terrible decisive moment photographer, but I recognize a good one when I see one.

Emmanuel is a middle aged music teacher, and he has started doing photography only recently. I imagine he must have had a good mentor though. His sense of composition is phenomenal, and he has developed his distinctive style by now. I have bought some of his photographs, and they are silver prints made in the darkroom, no photoshop whatsoever. I believe he is one of the most notable talents that I have recently come across, and it does not bother me at all that he is shooting B&W with a Leica, HCB style - on the contrary, I prefer this many times over contemporary colour work.

Thanks for the info! How interesting...Do you know how he can travel that much and and does teaching and music at the same time?

I would love to do the same! Maybe I can learn from him some tips.

I think he has initially travelled during school holidays - I do not know how he manages now, maybe he got some funding, however, when I bought his photos a year ago, I was probably one of his first customers, so he is still very much a startup.
