Arista Legacy Pro 100 Replacement

I've been using Legacy Pro 100 and now need to fish for another film. I like the tonality of EDU Ultra 100 in Xtol/Rodinal combination. It just requires a bit of care with the wet emulsion being somewhat prone to scratching.

Any other suggestions for a replacement film/developer?

Why not Fuji Acros? You do know it is the exact same film, don't you?

What the man said. ACROS. Though I'm disinclined to use Fuji stuff any more after I run out of LP100 — -robably I'll switch to TMX or Delta 100 (both are available in 100 foot rolls for bulk loading, which ACROS is not).

I thought that Acros had been discontinued. I gather that it is just the Freestyle version.

That said, I like the tonality of the Foma 100, but the fine grain of Acros. What 50-100 speed films/developers do you use in 35mm to obtain your preferred tonality?

ACROS positively sings in XTOL. 1:1 and 1:3 both work beautifully. 1:1 is incredibly smooth especially in the midtones and highlights. 1:3 has more bite and preserves more tonality in the shadows. I'm still trying to figure out which I prefer.

Yes, that is a beautiful shot.

But with regard to Arista Edu Ultra and scratching, since in this instance we are talking about roll film there is hardly any danger of scratching since there is no need to touch the emulsion—just a rinse in distilled water after washing and hang to dry.

Also: if scratching is a problem, are you using a hardening fix? The modern Kodak and Ilford films, at least, contain hardening agents in the emulsions. EDU Ultra, whatever it really is, might not.

I just reviewed many Foma/EDU Ultra 100 Flickr photos that were quite beautiful. Perhaps, I'm a closet EDU Ultra fan that will need to learn to like grain.

I think there's plenty of potential replacements around depending what your tastes are ... or can adapt to.

Plus X is a good film ... PanF+ is very nice pushed a stop if you can control the contrast ... and so on. Plus X is probably the logical alternative to the discontinuation of LP100 due to it's bargain price and it may become my standard if I can't get Rollei Retro 100 in future. Does anyone know anything about the Rollei 80 that seems to have replaced it?

I'm also experimenting a little with pulling 400 film at the moment ... I shot a roll of LP400 at 100 ISO today and develped it in straight Xtol for six minutes. It's hanging to dry at the moment and it looks OK ... I guess I'll know more when I scan it later.

If you do not mind a little more grain, BUT also higher acutance and much nicer tonality, go for Rollei Retro 100 in Rodinal. For best tonality expose at EI 50-64
