Frame lines on M6 with LTM lens?

I tried out an M2, decided I needed the meter, so got the M6. With a summitar f2 collapsable, the frame line lever does not line up automatically. Is this a fault, or to be expected.

Cheers

When you say automatically, do you mean you can get it to pop up the correct framelines by choosing them yourself? Or it just doesn't bring up the 50mm lines period?
I've never had a problem using a 50mm 1.5 Nokton with a Leitz adaptor.....which adaptor are you using?

The lever inside of camera is pushed by the tab on LTM-M adapter to show the correct frame line. If the lever is set slightly off, the result will be partially invisible frameline and/or incorrect line partially shown. My M2 had that problem when I first got it. It should be a relatively easy fix as part of CLA. Youxin fixed it for me and all framelines are perfectly shown now.

Edit: Of course the first step is to use a good quality adapter.

I once got an el-cheapo M/ltm adapter for free when I bought a J8. It brought up the wrong lines (not only was it badly made, but it was also mis-engraved re the focal length). A decent adapter shouldn't do that. Try Leitz/Leica, CV or Heavystar adapters.

It could also simply be the wrong adapter. Try unscrewing it and check that it says "50" or "50-75" on the front surface.

I had a cheapo 50/75 adapter too... it brought up the 50/75 framelines along with parts of the 28/90 framelines! Too much play and wiggle. Some of these cheapies don't even have the name engraved on them. No idea what they are until you try them.

Bought a few used Voigtlander adapters. Worked perfectly. Cheaper than the Leitz ones too.

Probably because the way the forum is headed, Leica M - CL.

But as long as we are here, the 40mm framelines always stay up on the CL.

I would be hesitant to collapse a Summitar on a CL because of the CDS cell swinging in front of the shutter. The meter is notorious for going out on the CL, and some oweners have the "stalk" removed. Makes collapsing lenses easier. The meter on mine still works, and just checked it thanks to this thread.
