It would still be nice to have some shots by the Canon and Summaron lenses to compare. Here's one on BW400cn taken not long after I got my sample of the Canon several years ago:

And here's a color sample from the Canon, which shows the effects of lower contrast. On Portra 400NC:

Steve: I like using Fuji Reala 100 or Kodak 100UC with this lens to get nice colors and high resolution.

Thanks for the tip, Raid. I'll have to try the Canon w/ Reala (I've used that film quite a bit though never w/ that lens). As for 100UC, alas I believe it's been discontinued (along w/ 400UC, which was a real favorite of mine), and I don't think I have any left.
Have you tried the Canon w/ Ektar?

I've just 're-acquired' my Serenar 35/2.8 which I sold to a cousin 8 years ago since he is trimming down his collection. Here's a sample picture taken a day after I got it back:

Late adopter.
Steve -- Next time you come to town to shoot, let me know and I'll bring my black Canon 35/2.8 and we can compare notes. I have some Reala and 100UC, and some 400NC, all a bit post-dated and needing to be used up. P.

No, I have one roll of Ektar that I have not used yet.
Frank Petronia one time sold me 100 rolls of 100UC.
I like it.

Sounds like a plan, Peter! There are interesting possibilities w/ these old lenses and modern film.

100UC is (was?) a nice film. Nice pop to the images. I loved 400UC.

Canon 35/2.8 Canon Camera Co lens is VERY sharp.
But not aggressively so, no over-corrected stuff. Just nice. Hi-res, lowish on contrast (remember: a lens from 1958 or so . . )
I like the sort of subdued tones;
and the stage of sharpness is maybe larger than Leica 35mm lenses (V-one thatis)
it does not like underexposure, shadows tend to darken quickly...

I did only adj. on light, not saturation. So the subduedness of the colors and saturation in practice is not always there.
and on the Monochrome the sharpness and rendering is just astonishing.

The bokeh is different from any lens I have, that is, I see a ring and an adjacent edge . . .
