Leica CLA and Parts Replacement

Hi everybody,
After recently acquiring a beautiful used M6,
There are 2 things that I would like to have done to it.
1. I feel like the rangefinder is a bit hazy(?), it's not as clear as that on my M8. I also feel like it would be nice for them to check it out and make sure everything's in working order. Does anybody know what exactly a CLA entails?
2. I would like my shutter advance lever to be replaced with an all metal M3 style advance lever.

My main question is who should I go to do this? I've heard that Leica NJ doesn't service film cameras anymore and Solms will take forever.
I hear there are some third party technicians that do CLA's. Would they also be able to replace my shutter lever? Who do you recommend?

I sent my M6 to Leica NJ and received it in August--I think it was there close to 6 weeks because of a back order part. The did a CLA, installed black chrome MP style levers--advance, rewind, and preview. Cost was $450.

I was talking to Don Goldberg last week and he was interested to know about my M6 at Leica NJ, because he heard the same thing you just mentioned about no more work on film bodies.

Don is the person I would send your camera to. He has my M7 and going to install the MP style levers on it as well as mask out some framelines.
 
If you have the right tool--a clamp wrench-- you can easily remove the shutter release ring and replace the advance lever, provided you have one. Leica can sell it to you. As for the rangefinder: most of the haze is deposited over time on the top cover windows, oil vapors condensation on the windows exposed to external temperatures changes. The removal of the top cover requires the right size clamp tools but it is not rocket science neither. Hope this helps in demystifying servicing the Leica.
 
The original poster wants an M3 style solid film advance lever on the M6. That is trivially easy.

You couldn't transplant an MP rewind on an M6; it is a different top deck housing (slanted on M6, flat on MP).

Give Sherry Krauter at Golden Touch a shout. She is running three weeks for this type of service and is arguably the best out there. She has always been great to work with.
 
Grab one of these advance levers.

Then send the camera to Sherry. Sometimes she is bad about communicating but does good work. I had a horrible experience with DAG. Youxshin could probably knock this work out in his sleep too. The leaver install is something so easy you could do yourself.

can amybody explain to me why youxin is so much cheaper than everybody else?
