I just got my M8 on Wed, so finally I was able to get out and take some shots this weekend (link to pics below - I need to learn how to post them directly here on the forums).
The M8 is my first Leica and first rangefinder (other than borrowing my Dad's old Voigtlander Vitomatic II) and WOW what a fun day. It was cold here in Boston with snow (snow photos also a first for me) but I had such a fun time.
The M8 is really everything I would hope it would be from an ergonomics perspective (coming from a M4/3's Pany G1)... changing aperture, focusing (love the precision), and shutter speed was just a joy. I have a ton to learn about proper exposure, getting used to the M8 metering, and focusing.
Overall the camera just felt very natural to me and I noticed I was much more deliberate in my shots (almost like film) and really slowwwwed down in thinking about what I wanted to do with focus, composition, etc.
Something interesting that I am sure I will grow out of... I found with these pics I still needed to crop them. I am using a Zeiss 35 but found that with these shots (the Door, Tobacco, and Train Track photos espeicially) I wanted to crop to zoom to where I wanted it. I am sure as I get more comfortable with the M8 I will need to crop less. However, I was AMAZED at the level of detail that is captured in the photos... In Lightroom I just kept zooming in to look at the detail. SO fun.
Anyway, awesome camera! I can't wait to get out and take more photos and learn the camera more.
