I just got my M8 on Wed, so finally I was able to get out and take some shots this weekend (link to pics below - I need to learn how to post them directly here on the forums).

The M8 is my first Leica and first rangefinder (other than borrowing my Dad's old Voigtlander Vitomatic II) and WOW what a fun day. It was cold here in Boston with snow (snow photos also a first for me) but I had such a fun time.

The M8 is really everything I would hope it would be from an ergonomics perspective (coming from a M4/3's Pany G1)... changing aperture, focusing (love the precision), and shutter speed was just a joy. I have a ton to learn about proper exposure, getting used to the M8 metering, and focusing.

Overall the camera just felt very natural to me and I noticed I was much more deliberate in my shots (almost like film) and really slowwwwed down in thinking about what I wanted to do with focus, composition, etc.

Something interesting that I am sure I will grow out of... I found with these pics I still needed to crop them. I am using a Zeiss 35 but found that with these shots (the Door, Tobacco, and Train Track photos espeicially) I wanted to crop to zoom to where I wanted it. I am sure as I get more comfortable with the M8 I will need to crop less. However, I was AMAZED at the level of detail that is captured in the photos... In Lightroom I just kept zooming in to look at the detail. SO fun.

Anyway, awesome camera! I can't wait to get out and take more photos and learn the camera more.

so just copy and paste the BBcode? Do I need anything before or after the code to make it work on the forum?

Keyne: Indeed. This is the same that I experienced with going from a DSLR to an M8. It slowed me down. It permitted me to think and see and be much more deliberate. Enjoy.

Moving from a DSLR to m43 and then to the M8, the M8 has slowed me down. Allow me to concentrate on my subjects more, frame the picture correctly and wait for the moment. It has been very rewarding to see the results.

I love my M8, absolutely.

To display images in post, just click the little sunset picture in the post tools, then past the direct image link into that box. Simplest way I know.

Enjoy it!

Me? I'm a total fool, sold mine about 4 months ago and regretted it so after selling everything off including all my UV/IR filters & grip am now having to go through the process of buying it all again. Stick with it, it's worth it. :)

Nope, just paste the BB code.

Congrats on the M8. :)

YAY! That worked. Awesome.

Yeah the M8 has been really awesome to use thus far. I love the simplicity of controls. However getting used to metering with it and sticking to manual is a challenge (been searching for help on metering different scenes). Also, its cold and snowy here in Boston so its been hard to get out and use it. So much to learn.

Funny story though... I was showing someone my old Olympus 8080 they wanted to buy... I was trying to walk through how to use it... so complicated (buttons everywhere, menus upon menus... buttons pressed + dials)... made me laugh compared to the M8
