Color film that has a dreamy vintage look?

For those of you who recommended Ferrania, I just got back my first roll of 100 speed and it is really grainy. Is this a characteristic of the film? It is definitely accentuated by underexposure but even on exposures where I nailed it, it seems really grainy. The color/tone is really nice. Seems to skew toward a warm yellowish tone.

I haven't used 100 speed myself but that about sums up its reputation, I'd say. A search for Ferrania on the forum should yield more info.

For truly dreamy stuff... try cross-processing C-41 in E-6.

Fuji Astia or Ektachrome 100g are nice slide films with a classic low contrast look.

Ok, I'm really not on cross processing, but maybe shooting color neg and developing on E6 chemicals could give a washed out look and some color shifts that might be what the OP is looking for... I've never tried it, but who knows?

Not from Kodak Gold you can't. It actually has really nice color.

I found it on ebay... I saw some shots few days ago with Ferrania 400 and it lokks fantastic.

no, it is made in italy. it is no longer sold retail here in the usa, but left over stocks are available off ebay. it is still available in the EU, i believe. if i were a dyed-in-the-wool color guy, i'd shoot ferrania 100 and 400 ...

Whatever film you like - the effect you want is from an uncoated lens. Since all you have is a VC 35/2.5 you'll have to do it in post processing or buy an old lens.

I was afraid to suggest this since this kind of suggestion of often taken quite poorly. But I agree wholeheartedly. Besides using 160VC, I'll also use SF filters and with large format a soft-focus lens.

Soft net filter? Seems to be an old cinematographers trick that gets very rarely mentioned.
