i am starting to think that maybe i do not need a 15mm lens on the rd1.

i was out yesterday and shooting with the 21 and it pretty much did what i needed it to do...very similar sort of point and shoot set up as with the 15.

if that is the case then i might set my sights on a used 75 as i am liking the 90 on the rd1 but i 'think' a 75 might be easier to use without an external finder.
i have stopped using external finders with the rd1, no matter the lens.

just thinking out loud ...

Not sure what to say to you - 15 does some things that 21 cant and vise versa.
I have both, use them both on RD1s AND film cameras and find that both have features I like to justify having both.

I'd say, with a 15...21...25...28...40...50...90, do you really need a 75? Seems to me that is a crazy number of lenses to have. I personally don't think you "need" a 75, people tend to buy what they want rather than what they need though.

I'm puzzled by the 25 and 28 (38 and 42) ... very close together! How the hell do you decide when to use one over the other?

When I first read your query as to whether you needed a 15 I though it was because you had added the 12. 😱

The 15/4.5 is a cool lens even with the crop factor. I've seen some reviews though that suggest there is a high degree of light fall off with the R-D1.

i've had the 15 already (sold it) and loved it.
just wondering if i need to re-buy it.

had the 12 as well and determined it was too wide for my liking.

I've owned the 15 twice...liked it a lot, but ultimately, I've decided that my rangefinder lenses should be 28, 35, and 50, and for everything else I use a DSLR. I am at peace now.

At the moment my mind is being blown by the Sigma 8-16 f/4 for Pentax. Holy bananas. An amazing lens.

That is strange to me. I find wide angles on a Rangefinder so much more pleasant to use than on a (D)SLR.

And you don't have a 35mm to give a true (near enough) 50mm ... what can you be thinking?

Didn't you know that HCB (bows respectfully) used this focal length predominantly?
