m8 trip to paris...and forgot to bring the proper adapter to plug the charger

What are my solutions here? I know nothing about electricity, and i would like to avoid going to leica to buy some expensive thin i already own back home.

Is there any thing cheap i can buy in a hardware store to do this conversion?

I dont have an M8, so Im not sure, but if the charger says something like 120~220, or more, you should be ok, you just need to buy a converter for the plugs, no electronics, should be cheap.. If not, if its only 120, you will have to buy a power inverter, convert 220 into your 120 charger, in that case it might cost 50-100$....
I just noticed your in DR, not sure what power you use there.....
 
All you have to buy is a converter plug. The charger will automatically adjust to the current.

FNAC or someone should have them.

Same thing happened to me when I took a trip to Edmonton to visit my daughter. I already had two Pentax chargers--one each for K10D and K20D--but still managed to forget them at home. Had to buy a third to use on the two weeks of the trip so now I have lots.

If you've got the charger with you and only need the 120-220 adapter that shouldn't be too expensive. If you need the whole charger that's another story...
 
I check the bathroon, theres not such thin as diferent type of plug (I'm staying here in the art residence Cite Des Arts, for three months)

Ironhorse, i though about my recently sold m4-p, here they even have a proper analog lab running! I see toms of people walking around this building mostley with old canon EF cameras. But now I'm totally committed to digital and photoshop, and there's no way back!! jejeje I know ...it sounds really sad.

I've learned I always forget something every other trip.

If it's just a plug adapter you need, and are staying at a hotel, ask the hotel front desk. They may very likely have one they can loan you, otherwise I would say any major department store should stock them.

EDIT: I see you're not staying at a hotel. Perhaps one of your neighbours may be able to help you out, especially if they are visiting France from somewhere else, like yourself

Instead of an adaptor, you can just buy a european power lead with the right connector ("figure 8") on the other end. More convienient, and easier to get.

If you are an Apple laptop user you can also take the power adaptor off the laptop suply and fit that into the M8/9 charger.

This kind of cable should do the trick. You can get it at FNAC, or at any corner store that has electronics or household items. Should cost under 5 €.

For what it's worth, the connector is a IEC 60320-C7 type.

Yes. As above- I find FNAC very helpful and you should just need an adapter but check it out with the store. B&H advertise a Gralab Timer "European voltage 220v" if that helps you at all by way of knowing the voltage in Paris.
 
Just been checking- you might need to buy voltage converter since France is on 220V and I believe the Dominican Republic is on 110V.

Do enjoy Paris- I always do.

When I was in Paris, I plugged my laptop charger into the bathroom outlet and the outlet exploded (literally).
 
The M8 brick charger will convert the power, only an adapter is needed. Been there, done that...many times.

Yea, that's what I think. It was a real shame, too. I had planned on transferring my pictures from my CF card to my laptop every night. I only had one CF card with me (was using a 5DII at the time) and I was forced to change my picture quality (raw --> jpeg small) in order to not run out of space.

Hotel bathroom outlets in Europe are supposed to be safety outlets that can only drive devices with the power consumption of a electric shaver or toothbrush. They will blow a fuse when overloaded.

Obviously they should not explode when you plug in a high power device - but frequently some previous guest blew the fuse with his hair dryer and "repaired" it by short circuiting it with bubble gum wrap. That type of suicidal tinkering seems to be a firmly engrained habit among the British (and by extension the Commonwealth parts of the third world) thanks to the UK peculiarity of plug-installed fuses - most of my flatmates plugs were treated that way.
