Would you buy M8 with cracked LCD

Would you buy M8 with cracked LCD.Camera is 2.5 years old ,about 1500-1700 clicks,in excellent cosmetic condition.Cost about $1300 to replace LCD so I did not bother.
I use it like film camera.
If you would buy such M8, what would you like to pay?

Seeing as how brand new M8's were available on boxing day for $2000 CDN/USD here in Vancouver, then that busted LCD M8 is worth about $300.00 given the cost of repair.

More than likely NO. The M8 would have be really cheap in order to convince me.

If the LCD did not work at all, the camera would almost be unusable given other functions and settings still need it.

I agree that I would NOT buy. If the LCD were used to only view pictures, that's one thing, but the LCD is needed for the settings and functions of the camera.

I suppose someone who was interested in buying it and then sending it to be upgraded (as it is a 'normal' M8) might purchase it and then send it for the saphire screen upgrade + other upgrades.

if the price was right of course. finding someone who would be interested in doing that would be fairly hard though i'd imagine.

750 Euro for sapphire screen, 1,320 for all upgrades and comes with a year's warranty.

oh, and on topic: no, i probably would not. one wrong button move in a menu you are feeling your way through could possibly turn it into a brick until you figure your way back out.

The camera settings can be set using a computer connected through the USB port- right? Manual exposure can be used instead of the exposure compensation. If the camera was cheap, why not. By cheap- I mean ~$750 or less.

I think it would be more like a car with a broken shifter. Still wouldn't buy it.
One of my best friends used to have an old Nissan that only worked in 2nd gear and reverse, those were fun times 😀

A M8 with cracked LCD is better than a M9 with cracked sensor filter glass ;-)

The price is the only measurement, to judge this.
Fully functional M8 are readily available at already quite low prices, new deals obviously can be had as well (see above).

The approach of getting the camera and having it upgraded with warranty makes sense (if the price is right and doesn't exceed total costs of a M8.2).

There has been a report from a buyer of a second M8 from Australia, if I remember correctly, who bought a camera with slight mark, to have it shipped to Leica, which have informed him, that the camera's housing was distorted, resulting in hefty total overhaul costs.

These kind of things are at the risk of the buyer obviously and should be reflected in appropriately low purchase cost or in a share of costs agreement with the seller, should further damage be found during a check.

My late Brother had the engine die on his 1960s VW Beetle on his way home from work. He shifted it into 2nd gear and drove home using the starter motor. A hybrid WAY before the 21st century.

My first 3 digital cameras did not have a screen on them. With the M8 you get a film counter and battery indicator, f-Stop, Shutter Speed, exposure indication, and of course positive confirmation of focus.
