dumb newbie question

With all of my fixed-lens cameras, RFs inclusive, I don't use lenscaps because they cameras reside in ever-ready cases.

For SLRs and (hopefully someday) Interchangeable-lens RFs, I keep the caps on with cap-keeper strings. If I know Im' going to be using that camera a LOT, I keep the cap off until I return it to the bag.

Taking the cap off at the start of your session seems the best approach.

I use a lens hood all the time. Film in, lens cap off, hood on & check meter ... no worries mate !

Otherwise I would forget too :bang:

Hood/filter or both and the cap comes off (if there was even one on) when the camera comes out of the bag. Yes, I've still managed a couple of cap-on shots but not many. One-up to the SLR, of course!

I have an old 'peekaboo' style A-12 back for my Hassy that will allow you to shoot a frame with the dark slide in ... which it shouldn't of course! It catches me out on the odd occasion no matter how hard I try to remember so I stuck a piece of white tape directly behind the WLF on top of the back where you can't miss it with the words 'remove the dark slide stupid!' on it.

It seems to have worked so far! 😛

Like one of the above posts I take it off, put it in my pocket and put the lens hood on. Stays like that till I stop snapping.
