Can you imagine if Fuji buoyed by the success of the X100 decided to bring out a similar bodied manual focus camera, not fixed lens with say, 28mm, 45mm and 85mm lenses matched to the camera's sensor and a genuine rangefinder focusing system super imposed in the optical viewfinder.

For that I'd even learn to tweet!
 
What's an X100?

I've been avoiding the X100 threads, but that's getting harder to do. I'm pretty happy w/ my Oly Pen m4/3 digicam. Does everything I need a digital camera to do, AND I can use my LTM and M mount lenses on it. How good is that?
 
Pretty good I'd say! People with something like a digital Pen would have less reason to be interested in an X100. For those of us with no compact digital however ... 🙂

I understand that. 35mm film is about the convenience of a compact camera, at the expense of quality and tonality. If I want good negs for printing (B&W) I'll take medium-format any day. An X100 would be good as a tagalong camera when I'm carrying the Hassy kit, or when I don't want to carry the dSLR kit.
 
I fired off an email to Digital Camera Warehouse an hour ago to ask about predicted delivery because I forgot to ask on the phone the other day. Just got this reply:

Thank you for enquiry.

We’re currently expecting our first shipment of Fuji X100s to arrive in stock on the 18th to the 21th of this month.

I have been advised that they are experiencing a worldwide shortage so we’re uncertain whether our first order will be fulfilled but currently have had no indications it won’t be.

Hopefully the little Fuji elves are working around the clock! 🙂
 
No. I just have no use for a camera like X100. Nevertheless, I'm happy for everyone who will get one - especially Keith - and look forward to see your results.
 
I'd like to. I used to have an RD-1 and M8 with a 3 lens kit. I sold them all to be able to send my 4-year old daughter to the best school. I loved my rangefinders, but I love my daughter more. But I do miss having a decent (IQ, controls, etc) camera I can bring anywhere. Once I get back on my feet and IF the price drops to about $800, I will get one 🙂
 
No. Not for me just yet. I'm trying to be good and wait until its been in production for a while. All too often I've jumped in early ( the last time being with the M8 ) when waiting a few extra months or even a year would have seen prices begin to settle, small issues be sorted and generally have a greater wealth of information to make a properly informed decision.

Oh yeah I nearly forgot, .... and there's the issue of being a jobbing freelancer in the midst of a recession making £1000 too rich for my blood right now. With plenty of kit to do my job already a Fuji X100 would be a waste of money right now, shame though as I would love to have one😎

It's a bit hard to make photographs without SOME material, isn't it? Perhaps you meant stop being so gear-obsessed? 😉

I'm so very tempted to buy one for personal use vs. 20+lb bag of Nikon gear. More likely to take it everywhere, much less to get between me and creating an interesting image.

While I still find film fascinating, I think I'd likely use it more than my M2, which, while I love it dearly, tends to languish in the shadows.

I'm looking for a foldable one, probably a Toyo 45CF or something similar. It was not that expensive in the first place, and it's not made out of wood. A wooden camera is a thought that's a little scary for me. 🙂

Recommendations are welcome, of course.
 
I'm feeling irresponsible. Folks have three cameras and don't need any more. I reached that point a long time ago. Probably, sometime during the ice age. For me, photography is a hobby and a fun distraction. Actual material need is not considered. Perhaps, it should be.
 
Last year I was sure that I would be in the first wave, but now I'm pretty certain that I'll be in the second wave or at least six months out. I'm not waiting for anything in particular to occur. I can afford it. When I'm ready, I intend to buy new, so I won't be lurking in the classifieds.

Right now, I'm enjoying shooting film, concentrating on printing, and working on a photo book. Hardware-wise, I've been playing around with my MFT camera and some recent Retina purchases. I've plenty to keep me entertained for a while.

I'm very excited for everyone, and I'm looking forward to all the reviews and postings showing off the camera.

As you are in Europe you might want to have a look at the cameras made by Mike Walker in the UK. They are all made from ABS with stainless steel hardware.

The Titan SF 45 is a regular folding camera, but I wish I had a project that justified purchasing one of the Titan XL Wide 5x7 cameras which are a non folding design. Very rugged and quick to set up!

Anyways, back to the Fuji X100...
 
I got bitten by being an early adopter for the E-P1.
A big factor is also that I hate the fly by wire focusing on the E-P1, and don't expect the X100 to be any better.

So as good as the X100 seems, I'm more excited about the possibilities of the Ricoh GXR M-module, so will wait an see what happen later on in the year.
Why is there next to no buzz about the Ricoh ?

the viewfinder is an afterthought EVF that sits as an unwieldy attachment compared to x100 optical built in AND evf, the controls aren't mechanical dials like the x100, the M lenses are full frame lenses and the M-mount GXR unit is a 1.6 crop sensor meaning you're not going to get true focal lengths.

GXR is still cool - just those are the reasons why it doesn't have the same buzz.
 
In the middle of all this X100 fervor I'm reminded that my D700 is simply awesome. I was post processing images today that I shot last week at a gallery opening and I'm blown away at the performance of the Nikon at 3200 ISO with the Distagon in these conditions ... they make a complete mockery of what the M8 was delivering.

As much as I'm chomping at the bit to get my new Fuji I'm also aware that the poor thing has a tough task ahead of it and a lot to live up to! 😛
