If I had a disposable income then yes, but as a broke college student, my Oly 35SP will do fine for now. Perhaps one day when I win the lottery :D

I actually am very much the early adopter, with cameras, computers, electronic gadgets...you name it. As such I was very early on the pre-order list.

That said, I actually just canceled my order yesterday. Way too much in my camera inventory right now and I just knew I'd get the camera, use it and love it's viewfinder (a hybrid I've been anxious), and then it would sit. I'm on a bit of a film kick so my M's and G2's are getting good workouts, with the M8 first off the bench.

A moment of mature consideration in a purchase, shocking for me! Hopefully everyone who does have one coming will enjoy them to the fullest, should be terrific!

I supect that with the delay in shipping quite a few people will do what you've just done.

I just got a notice from my supplier informing me that their estimated delivery date has now been changed to 'not known!'

Interesting Keith, I forgot about that note from Fuji. I do look forward to the day yours arrives, quite a RFF story!

Enjoy, whenever you receive it.

I've been nuts about the X100 but just cancelled my deposit too. If I had it, I'd be using it like crazy but I like to know where I'll be and not be stuck waiting for the delivery like some schoolboy.... Also the last few digital sessions have felt a little too much like spray and pray, so going to back to film for small-format stuff is good discipline. I'll get sick of scanning it about the time these cameras come back on line I suspect....

It will also be good to let it get past those first version hurdles, the firmware updates, the inevitable magenta vertical banding at a certain ISO, etc.

My two issues:

1. Despite the 35mm equivalency, it's still a 23mm lens, which means depth of field will always be very wide. Nice in some circumstances, but not so good for portraits.
2. Spending a $1,000 without ever being able to see it or handle it is a tough sell.

B&H gives you a two week return policy after which if you don't like it you can return it with no penatly.

Portraits don't always have to have a knocked out of focus background. EVen if the camera was full frame with a 1.4 aperture, I'd aks why not just use an 85mm if you want to lose the background.

If it is to fess up, I guess I should.
I am getting one and I am one of those who could not wait. I went to Ebay and paid the price.
It is comming.

Yes ... I did get the odd whiff of film verses digital myself! :D
Isn't this what all the hype of the camera is all about? How the X100 looks & operates like a film camera? I'd love for the X100 to be my first digital camera but at $1200.00 + cost of accessories for what comes down to a fixed lens P&S I can't really afford one right now. Besides when all said & done, you compare the final print to that of perhaps a Canon G11, is it really worth the extra cost? It almost seems that the "you guys that must have one" have fallen under the film vs digital debate in a new & profound way called design. The folks who envisioned the X100 should get a high achievement award because they sure netted a big crop of fish which isn't a bad thing.:D

Ain't that the truth! :D

Hell yeah. I hate the infinite depth of field thing, and the g11 is useless at anything over iso200. So basically really unusable for me. And I actually had one for 2 weeks, so I'm speaking from experience.

Just slide that noise suppresor all the way to the right on LR3. Works quite well on my Power shot A570

Robs detail and fine color acuity on my 5d when used too much, let alone a tiny sensor camera. The x100 at 12,800 is probably better than the G11 at 400.

How is a fully manual camera a point and shoot? Does the fixed lens make it a point and shoot?

Yes, it is. APS-C kills small sensors in many ways.

Perhaps not, but like my Canonet QL17GIII it does have it's limitations like a P&S.

That's it, It's the digital Canonet that Canon should of made but added a rangefinder. :D

I was only using the Canon G11 as an example. I really know nothing about the camera. I like the X100 but like most new toys it's too expensive for what it is IMO. A good RD-1 or M8 can be had for a few hundred dollars more!
