Shot w/ my crappy Sony Cybershot through my telescope eyepiece. So bright it was hurting my eyes even w/ a ND filter on the eyepiece!

In fact the angle subtended by the moon when high in the sky is actually greater than at the horizon, but it just doesn't seem so. The effect is very small, but at its zenith, the moon is a half earth diameter closer to the observer than at the horizon, all other things being equal, which of course they nearly always aren't.

I used to see the same effect of the horizon in the bay where I grew up. As we came to the street heading down to the beach there would be a huge ship in the bay, wedged between two trees. As we got closer more of the bay was visible and the ship shrank to ordinary dimensions.

I exposed a pair of frames with a 135mm lens on the OM-1, but yeah, it will look quite minuscule.
But the most impressive was at the sunset. I was near the beach and could see a big reddish moon rising over the sea and in a pink-blue-violet sky. Very nice.
There were lots of people with the camphones and some with P&S shooting it. Sadly, I didn't bring any camera.

Well, ye'll have to wait till 2016 to get something similar.

Anyone noticed the correlation between the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Sunami of December 2004 AND the recent Japan earthquake and sunami?

Both occurred a week or so before the Super Moon.😱

Yep, it's just a wee bit bigger but noticeably brighter. 14 and 30% each, IIRC. Well, it moves fast and I guess today it's already on a normal distance

The haiti earthquake happened in the neighborhood of the 2010 supermoon. That one had just a 15 km difference compared to this one. The media was saying it was the biggest one in 20 years, it was, but for little.

Scientists don't mention it as a cause. Afterall, it should happen at the point of perigee, and a week before or after, it's just at a normal distance. Are there any astronomers hanging around here?
