Has anyone ever used one of these conversions from Japan Exposures? How's the handling? The barrel looks to be unchanged from the original mount version--does the front element turn when you focus? It's hard to picture how this would work.

I shot lots of pictures I loved with this lens on the G1...

I have used two converted lenses on a loaner basis. They do what they are supposed to do. I was just thinking about them yesterday, by pure chance. They cost far too much, considering the many offerings these days of digital cameras which can accept multiple mount types via adapters.

i think it's more expensive than buying a G2...
and i really think it is ruining a lens.

it's not reversible, right?

I too have been thinking of this lens. I have the MS Optical 28/2.8 ( converted Contax G ) and it's plenty sharp for me.

I'd be interested to know how the MS 90/2.8 compares to other 90/2.8 lenses. I'm now thinking I'd like a compact 90 faster than f/4.

I got the Summilux 75mm/14. The Summicron 90/2 is also wonderful.

Try the 90/2.8 M-Hex instead. It's a copy.

The other one that comes close is the Summicron 90/2 v3. Also an Ernostar.

Roland.

I had the planar 45 conversion done. I let it go for some stupid reason. As Roland brings up the hex 90 is the same scheme (Ernostar). I'm using the CV Apo 90 now. That half stop it gives up is never missed. This thing is sharp, clean, and light weight . Mine was $250 most used ones seem to sell about the same. It's ugly but for how seldom I mount a 90 on my rf ... also perfect.

I have six Contax G lenses and of the five which can be converted to M mount, I plan to have four lenses which don't duplicate any of my Leica lenses in focal length or aperature converted. This will be much more expensive than buying another Contax G body (my G2 was damaged beyond repair), but since the Contax G series is no longer manufactured, I know there won't be a digital option (I'm not interested in M 4/3 or Sony Nex). I've attached MS Optical's current price list (as of March 14, 2011). Since this is my first post, I hope this doesn't violate any forum policies. I haven't communicated with MS Optical since the earthquake, so I don't know what their future plans are regarding converting lenses.
