agfa equivalents

There's been a lot of discussion about which 'new' developer is really the old Rodinal. Is anyone qualified and interested in putting together a list of what 'new' if anything replaces former Agfa products? I, for one, would love to know what can be used to replace Sistan, the stabilizer that supposedly works wonders with RC paper. Anyone willing to help?

I see that Freestyle lists Adox 25, 50 and 100. Is that the "new" APX?

Those are the Efke films in different packaging.

There will be no new APX (Agfa Photo) films, simply due to the fact the production line was closed in Leverkusen in 2006.
Rest stock was sold under Rollei Retro 100/400, which has almost come to an end now.

What rests is to try to copy more or less this emulsion. Fomapan 100 is already a type of film close to the APX 100.
The new Rollei RPX 100/400 films is an effort too but it's not APX 100/400 compatible. Indeed the same type of specs (bi-cubical, Tri-Acetate) and even a good push processing (RPX 400) till E.I. 1600 which is compared to the old APX 400 very good.

At this point, it's almost impossible to find APX100 or Retro 100 in the US. There are some ebay sellers but the film is just too expensive. What is the closest match to this film out there. I've read a lot of conflicting information regarding substitutes. I've seen some wonderful results from this film from RFF members and would love to try it both in 135 and 120 format. Thanks.

APX 100 in 120 roll film was already in 2006 almost sold out. What Rollei-Maco did was to put the 135um, 35mm film on 120 roll film at the Efke factory under Rollei Retro 100 120 roll film. This was also the reason it curled much because APX100 in 35mm has a single non-curling layer and APX100 in 120 roll film (100um, original) has a double non-curling layer.

Back to the actual situation: Fomapan 100 E.I. 80 in Rodinal/R09 one shot is your best option to come close to APX 100 in Rodinal. Try to prevent over-development with this combination.

Be aware that the 120 roll film versions of Fomapan films have a Blue dye inside the polyester which can not be removed. The 35mm Tri-Acetate Fomapan films do not have this. For enlarging it doesn't matter.

You can order Rollei Retro 100 in 135 directly from Maco.
The roll sell in 24-pack for 1,62EUR, a good price I think.

Agfa Photo is the brand name of Lupus. They can put any film in that box.

Adox is a brand name of Impex. They are also selling regular Efke films under that brand.

Rollei is a brand name of Maco. They are selling Gevaert, Efke and Ilford material (indeed RPX is Kentmere emulsion) und that film label.

Which doesn't mean it's bad material but the original production lines of Agfa Photo in Leverkusen are closed and not existing anymore which means APX100/400 is past.

Apart from the fact some companies would like to re-make it to fill a gap in the market. But technically a 100% copy of APX films is not possible anymore.
