Margaret Atwood, the great Canadian writer, came to my school this week...she gave a reading, attended some receptions, etc. I moderated a couple of talks with students and introduced her reading, and of course brought along the Leica. Full set here:

Somehow I thought she would be using the M9 (with a Canon, wow...).
The Blind Assassin was excellent, the only one I've read though.
Nice images and she seems like a nice lady.

great images.
great images.
Looks like the M9 handled the indoor shooting really well. And thanks for the photos- I have read most of Atwood's novels and had no idea what she looked like. Hope everyone enjoyed the event.

Atwood is a real hero of mine...I've taught her stuff and written about her a bit, and it was amazing to meet her. A terrific person, very funny and charming.
I'm not wild about the white balance on the second one...it was a tricky lighting situation and I should really adjust it a bit in Lightroom. But the M9 acquitted itself wonderfully. This was its maiden voyage.

Reading the headline I thought SHE has toting an M9!
Not too far fetched since she invented the "long pen" for autograph signing.

NIce Photos. I also thought by your subject that she was using an M9!
She should be able to afford one with all the great books that she has sold

Nice photos - I have experienced the Leica, to be THE ideal camera for this sort of occasions, when any SLR is just to big and noisy, to be comfortably shot.
I do loooove the white balance picker tool in Lightroom and mostly use it as a starting point, to go from with adjusting white balance.
I would start here on the, presumably light grey shirt, the student on the left wears under her upper shirt and adjust from there to a slightly warmer tone to liking.
It is extremely quick in Lr, to select a batch of shots, you took in similar lighting and just sync an adjusted white balance setting with all shots.

Nice shots. They look stopped down; did you stop down to f/2 - f/2.8?
She was your pupil?!? j/k

Ha ha, that would be something! I have a class called Weird Stories, and Oryx and Crake is on the syllabus...
Actually, I believe those two are both at f/1.2. The top one might possibly be at f/2, but not the bottom.
And yeah, I use the WB picker in LR as well, but I couldn't really get shots taken in that room to cooperate. It was kind of weird mixed lighting.
I should add that such events are all also covered by the college's official photographers--the guy who usually does them shoots with a 5D, but he also has lately been carrying an E-PL2 with an adapted Canon FD 55/1.2. He often takes a moment to check out whatever's on my Leica.
I've actually joined the ranks of the gaffer-taped, because I got sick of people I work with suddenly realizing how much I paid for my camera.
