I'm going to buy an M9 when I travel via a London airport in the next few weeks. I need someone London/UK based who can charge a Leica battery for me and then post it back as I'd like to take the camera on my trip. Can anyone help - or does the battery come with a charge straight out of the box?

No, the battery does not come charged out of the box. Needs about two hours to charge.

That might be a good idea? I have a spare - if someone would charge it I'd be good to go

Maybe you could call up the store where u plan to buy it and ask them to charge a battery for you so when u reach it would be fully charged?

Why buy in London? VAT just went upto 20% or are we talking duty free?
So why not the store then djdstone?

If you have a spare, why don't you just charge it at home and take it with you?
Somehow I don't get the logic of the whole operation.

Why not simply buy a universal plug adapter and charge it wherever you are going on your trip?

I don't think the OP is being clear.

I don't yet own a Leica camera - I bought the battery of eBay. The plan was to charge it and then drop it in to the camera and start shooting straight away.

But the camera will surely come with a battery so why don't you just follow the advice of the good people here and call the dealer in advance and ask him to charge the battery that's included with the camera?
Your request really makes very little sense. Even if you had to charge the battery you bought off eBay, why would you need someone UK based to do that for you??

Ok this is how I'm reading this, although it would help if the OP was a lot clearer in his explanation. You want to buy an M9 at the airport duty free? You won't have time to wait and get the battery charged when you make the purchase? You have a spare battery that you would like someone to charge in advance and then forward to your next destination? Why can you not charge the battery in the hotel when you reach your destination? If you don't have one you could buy a travel plug adaptor at the airport along with the M9. Seems like a much less complicated way of doing it than sending battery to someone and then getting them to charge it.

The Leica M9 is a simple camera, so any complications have by necessity to come from the owners. If it was a Nikon he'd be reading the manual for three hours, so plenty of time to charge the battery. I think I admire the determination to 'hit the ground running' and photograph all the way out of the airport and all the way to the hotel. That is true commitment.

You could also just buy an extra charger off eBay now that you're at it anyway? A second charger can come in handy, and you get to charge your battery in advance.

Yes - that's a good idea. Which ones work okay?

At least that much is clear.

Pretty much all of them, moreover seeing you're apparently going to use it exactly once.

Upon arrival, buy camera at duty free store, go to airport bar and order a drink. Ask the bartender to plug in the battery for you while you have a couple of drinks. Your battery should be charged up enough to get you from airport to hotel by the time you're done.
You can buy a Leica M9 at a duty-free store at an airport? That's wild.
