Black paint Leica's have a very distinctive smell. Is it just me or has anybody else noticed this?
Maybe I'm imagining things but my black chrome M4-P or chrome M3 just don't smell the same as my friends newish MP. (which is brassing very nicely)
Maybe because his MP is relatively new???
Don't get me wrong. I don't go around sniffing Leica's
but I can definitely smell the difference when placed up to my eye.

My girl friend borrowed my M3 for about 6 weeks and when she finally gave it back it smelt like "Baby Doll".

Its funny. I've never smelt my camera, but I have tried to convince people that Rodinal has a very pleasing smell to it.

I've never noticed it with my M4. My Zeiss Contaflex however, does have a nice leather smell to it.

Ok, I smelled some of my cameras, and didn't find a smell on either of my Leicas (M4 and IIIC sharkskin). My Contaflex has that nice leather smell, and my 1947 Kodak Flash Bantam even more so.

I only smell my cameras to see if they've got film inside...other than that I figure they'd smell like sweaty hands...
