I've never noticed it with my M4. My Zeiss Contaflex however, does have a nice leather smell to it.
BRB, smelling my camera...

Ok, I smelled some of my cameras, and didn't find a smell on either of my Leicas (M4 and IIIC sharkskin). My Contaflex has that nice leather smell, and my 1947 Kodak Flash Bantam even more so.

I only smell my cameras to see if they've got film inside...other than that I figure they'd smell like sweaty hands...

How have I not thought of that. I shoot fuji supera all of the time and that stuff has a pretty obvious smell. I guess it's smell you learn to love, somehow.

Old Vulcanite does have a distinct odor, especially when the camera gets warm on a hot day. I used to think it was gross but now it just reminds me that I'm shooting my M4 so it's got a happiness thing going for it.

Oh yes. The smell of the old vulcanite is really ugly. Even the hands and fingers smell like this after using the camera...:bang:
