I got my first M, an M6, about 6 months ago. I had been lusting after one for a while, but could not justify the cost. So I bought a Canonet QL17 III to deal with my rangefinder craving..
3 months later I still wanted the M6 as much as before so I bought one. It was meant to be my last camera, but it had the reverse effect, it made me love rangefinders. Since then I have bought an Olympus XA and last week I got a Contax T.
I can imagine that selling an M would always be a mistake. I love using the other cameras, but when I pick up the M6 it makes all the others feel like cheap plastic.

My first M was the first to go.
But it did open up a whole new world of cameras.

Still have and use my M2, given to me 35 years ago.

I traded my first M, a M3 DS for a M4, which was stolen. I eventually replaced the M4 with another, and I still have it. A chrome body 1967.

No, I sold my M2 years ago, though I still have the M3 I got around the same time & replaced the M2 w/a KS-15(4) a couple years ago.

I still have the M3 my great uncle bought in Hong Kong in 1960. He gave it to me in the late '90's and I've been shooting with it ever since. He passed away last fall (at the age of 93), and I'll use it to photograph a memorial service for him in a couple of weeks. Thanks, Uncle Mike.

Nope. I loved the thing and brought it everywhere with me. Bought it new in college, used it during my early career, even had plans to be buried with the thing. Had to sell it last month because I got laid off.

Being a fairly new to rangefinder cameras, the answer is yes I still have that M4 that I first bought 4 years ago. I have recently purchased a nice used M7 and very nice used MP which are my favorite cameras to shoot with. I have been toying with the idea of selling the M4 but for some reason I would love to hang on to it. It symbolizes camera excellence of the 1960s and early 1970s when I first started working seriously at taking photographs. It's a little more than just another camera to me. Jim

M's that passed through in last 5 years:
M3 - my first, sold because too beater
M2 - needed CLA
M5 - too big (for me)
M7 - too expensive to keep, needed cash
currently using M8, planning buy M3, a good copy this time.

Black III bought used in 1965, still got it, now part of a larger screw mount family.

My M5s need red dots!
In my case, it was two M6TTL, bought in a quick, mad shopping spree within days of each other in the fall 2003. And I still have them.

Started this thread because I'm agonizing over selling my M4-2. Out of the M's I've owned, it's the only one that's given me no problems so far.

Yes. I only bought it three or four years ago. I'll admit to being careless but I'm not that bad.

Yes. M3, had it for over 10 years. I don't expect I'll sell it at any point.

Nope - sold my M2 a few years ago for peanuts (but you should have seen the state of it...).
