My 2.8D came with a nice case, but the strap is cracked and not trustworthy. Anyone have luck replacing that strap? I know I can find the leather, but I doubt I could find the right style rivets in the proper color. I am willing to send it off for repair, if anyone has any suggestions.

I know the obvious answer is to leave the case at home, but I find it very well designed and not much of a pain to use...

Is the strap and clips similar to that of the 2.8f? If so Luigi at Leicatime does replacements grafting original clips onto new straps.

If your strap is attched to the case, maybe send him both case and strap and he can attach a new strap to the case?

Go to Ebay and search for Rolleiflex strap.
There are about a dozen sources of new straps with alligator clips starting from around $35. I bought one recently.
Luigi is there too - at nearly $200.

Actually, I am looking for the strap that is rivetted directly onto the leather case. And the "D" doesn't use the alligator clip version of the Rollei strap...

Go to a shoe repair shop, or call around to one. Or if there are any stores that specialize in leather jackets and such, they will know of a good leather worker. Or if neither of those will work, either a fabric store or hobby store should know of people you can contact. A motorcycle store would probably know of leather workers.

Might be a good idea to get a pair of D rings riveted in to place so you can change the strap down the road with less hassle?

I think you're right - a tack shop or other leather shop will come close. I was hoping I could find rivets that come close to matching.

I'm with Leigh! I ordered a custom strap from ebay and it's still going strong. It works perfectly with my 2.8F both with and without the case.

Unfortunately, they don't work with the "D" model body or case.

OK. Try the other route. Shoe and bag repair shops and leatherworkers at country craft markets are your best bet.
We have a Polish leather worker locally who runs a shoe repair business. I took an old Rollei strap to him (along with the ends which in my case were the alligator clips) and he not only made a special trip to his supplier to source some first grade leather of the right colour and quality but he made me a beautiful new strap for about $25.
