I was most impressed with the Winner Newcomer Award 2011, Chinese photographer Jing Huang, born in 1987. His portfolio of 12 images shot with his M4-P is well worth a look - here's the link:

Oops - that's probably a cardinal sin - I should say, Oskar Barnack, not Oscar Barnack!

Oh I didn't win? Damn.
I actually remember looking at that person's photos and thinking they'd certainly be some of the best in the newcomers slot.

All good, especially the one of the two ships, now I'm wondering how he got that great grain. Possibly the best grain I've seen.

Wow, they (Leica) are getting mellow, a guy with an M4-P can win the coveted award ??
Joking aside, those are beautiful photographs. No wonder.

I like the photos a lot. Funny how he did not need a Leica lens to produce any of them except the bird cage plastic in particular. The rest of them are all so 3200 iso f/22, minor under exposure, on foggy days that any camera would of produced an image that would of been seen the same.

I think they are superb. I prefer the images of the Newcomer winner than the Open winner, but that could be because the style of the latter was more generic. I think Huang's style combined a little Kenna with contemporary documentary work, with Salgado like grain. The result is rather lovely and the sepia tone works too.
