MSRP is less than I had heard. Looks like a nice unit, very excited to try it along with a Nokton 35/1.4. The GXR is a very competent little camera with great UI and IQ.

For a lot of us yes, but Ricoh has a nice little cult following... so it'll do fine. Not everybody likes the same in a camera. Myself, I won't even bother with a camera without an internal VF anymore.
+1.
I can't even consider a camera that doesn't have an internal viewfinder. I refuse to use the LCD screen for composition.

You have read it right. I know this is APS C, but for $600 you get no AA filter, two shutter modes focal plane and silent electronic, microlenses on the sensor and probably decent high ISO. Dollar for dollar, way better than a used M8 and I dare say M9. For what Leica charges, if I were them, I would be embarrassed by this. If APS C is $600, $1,500'or so for full frame is not far off from various manufacturers.
Leica's continued existence and recent profits are no cause for embarrassment.
That said, this this does look interesting in its own right, and for me could result in one day graduating from m4/3 (with a GF1) to APS-C. I plan to keep an eye on it. Unfortunately where I live I'm not aware of any Ricoh retailers so it could be a while until I get to check one out.

Microlenses?
Are they offset microlenses towards the corners as in M8 and M9?
Or not as in Oy/Pani and NEX?
"Hopefully" sells adaptors and then guarantees disappointments with M-mount wide-angles on sensors with a crop factor.
There were pictures all over the net before micro 5/4 fame out and then again right before NEX came out.
I don't know anybody who could duplicate these pictures taken with 28mm, 25mm, 24mm, 21mm, 15mm etc. M-mount lenses. Did not work stopped down to f:8, not to mention fully open.
Let's wait and see.
And maybe test the combo in the local camera store first.
The Ricoh GXR 18.3mm (=28mm) is not so short when shooting, after extending just as the X1 does. No microlenses in the corners there, I guess.
The M-mount unit looks promissing, though.

Workin' my way through the film fridge
I hope everyone remembers that 1.5x crop is not as bad as we think. The epson does a terrific job with all the M-mount lenses.

sounds like a nice backup for a NEX.

Ricoh's jpeg processing seems to be excellent judging from the samples produced by the other A12 modules. That itself is a big advantage versus Sony and Panasonic.
Just in case no one is reading, photozone.de notes that wide angle lenses do not work well on NEX. Some poor results were produced when fitting the Zeiss 28 and 35. So on the flip side, I won't go for NEX based on these.

I will be one of the early adopters. I've been looking forward to this for as long as it has been on the cards, and its promise was the deciding factor for when I bought a GXR instead of the Fuji X100.
Ricoh have included a lot of innovative features, like the microlenses, the dual mechanical and electronic shutter, manual focusing mechanisms and no AA filter.
I've got a swag of M-mount lenses which I am eager to try with this module. It could be an good M9 companion, providing decent high ISO and crop-factor tele capabilities for all the same lenses. And with adapters, heck, I could probably use the old Minolta and Pentax lenses I have.

The price is a disappointment... I can see paying $600 for a sensor and a lens, but not just a sensor.
I have been looking at mirrorless EVIL stuff for a few days now and thought I found the whole kitten-kabootle with the GXR until I read the price for this A12... Ridiculous. I can save a ton of money and get an on-par or near-par censor from Sony, and only have to spend $30 to mount my Elmar.

I agree...I would have been on board for maybe $700 for the whole kit.

What's about lens tester included?
.....I take a GRD III second hand 10 month ago.....believe me, if this "M module" works that way, it could be wonderful....worth a look....

I cannot believe people are bitching about the price of this... some of you will not be happy until they make a m mount camera that is only $10.

Indeed, it's an extreme niche product, which obviously required a lot of R&D. I think $600 is very reasonable in fact.

I wonder how much software they will offer to suit old lenses? And if they don't, maybe it's a natural for a third party who's already into software corrections.

$600 is a bargain, sure the NEX is cheaper, but there is no EVF option. Yes, m43 has been doing this for a while, but with an excessive crop factor.
The Ricoh as a decent size sensor AND an EVF option, which, unless I'm mistaken, makes it currently unique in the market.
The NEX 7 may change this, but at a rumored 24mp, I doubt it'll be cheap.

I understand you can program the M module to correct issues (corner discoloration etc..)with any particular lens, like the Leica 'coding' system, but for any glass, not just Leica.

It's right there in the DPReview preview.
It's a little maddening to me that they got their hands on this thing and didn't try shooting any pictures with wide-angle lenses, just a 50 and a 40.
