I looked on bhphoto, adorama, dalephoto, and amazon and I can't find either of these 2 lenses anywhere for sale. I'm looking to buy them (selling my 5D2, 135L, 35L, and 580ex II to fund them) and have them shipped before next Friday :(

I live in the US so I'm looking for shops based here where I can buy them new at their regular prices (both are about $2,000). I can't rely on eBay to get them on time, the prices are a bit marked up.

Thanks for any help you can give me if you know of a place with either of these lenses in stock and are new in the box, reliable, and can ship in 2 or 3 days please let me know.

There's a used, but near perfect shape current 50 Summicron in black at a local shop here in Denver. Just saw it today for around $1700. The shop is called Englewood Camera, and the manager is named Bryce. I'm sure he could help you out. Also, they have 2 28mm Elmarit's available, but are the previous versions, not the ASPH. Hope this helps!

They are marked up because these lenses are very hard to find new right now in the USA. Almost all Leica lenses are out of stock in the US.

It may be worth a call to Tamarkin and Popflash, but they probably don't have them either.

Even if they release a new 50 Summicron ASPH, it won't be available soon. I'm still waiting for the 21 Super Elmar 3.4 that was supposed to be released in July 2011.

Animefx, please check your PM.

Thanks for this! I called them about an hour and a half ago and went ahead and ordered it! She was it was in mint condition. Saved me a $200-$300. Did you notice if the lens was 6-bit coded?

Where? There are two ASPH on ebay selling for more than list (more than you can buy from Precision) and one used one that is nearly the price of a new one.

There are quite a few pre-ASPH.

I read somewhere that a new 50 summicron asph is soon to be released...........

I read some time ago that Leica discarded the plan due to the increase in cost associated with the upgrade and the modest increase in performance. If they do go ahead with a, say, $2600+ Cron asph, it will be interesting to see if it sells well. I cannot imagine people spending so much for such a pedestrian lens, in which case I am likely to be completely wrong! Rather than invest resources in producing such a lens I would argue that they would have been better off making some one the ones they already make available. I am glad I have all the lenses I need, but if I had bought into the M system six months ago I would be raging that so few lenses are available - at all - off the shelf. Never mind the products' quality, if items are not available, Leica cannot be taken seriously as a supplier of professional equipment. People need new things. photographers do decide, hell, I would really do with X lens for this project, and if the kit is not available for the system you have invested in, then what do you do? Rent a lens for six months? Buy a new system entirely? Not shoot it and miss out? Come on Leica!

Why don't you get a M-Hexanon 28mm f2.8? It's "sharper" then the Leica according to photodo, although I can't figure out if the one on photodo is aspherical version or not. ("sharper" = by numbers on paper, practically speaking they are both the same)

And it's uh... $1000 dollars chaper? Go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you want new, make sure you get on a bunch of waiting lists (e.g., Popflash, B&H) and be ready to buy fast when you hear from them. That's how I got my Lux 50.
