It's a long shot but I wondering if anyone has ever figured out a suitable replacement hood for 21 f4 SA, or has experience shooting this lens "hoodless".

I'm just not inclined to shell out $400 for an original hood....

IIRC, the lens wasn't too flare prone when shooting in B/W but when using color neg film or digital the flare was really apparent with my particular copy. Given the age of the lens, I'd worry more about haze.

Check KEH for hoods. They probably have a few.

I've been watching KEH and the usual suspects. No luck.

There are a few on ebay, but at or around the $400 mark.... No way.

I'm getting a really clean example. Not a hint of haze. Maybe Schneider didn't have the same problems with that.... Leitz obviously did.

I'm using a 39mm wide angle hood screw-in I found on Ebay a few years ago, it doesn't vignette, (well, it doesn't add, anyhow.) It was cheap.

Sorry I don't have a close-up. but you can see it in the shot of my herd.

yeah, looks like it could be, but you just need to keep overhead and side light off the lens, that front element is really set back, I don't think it can get too much light on it.

Yeah the 21 f4 has a rotating mount so it requires a round hood.

I just snagged the more conical shaped one on ebay... Not sure how I missed that one during all my searches.

thanks!
