Best film for street photography is the film loaded in your camera

Tri-X in D-76 pushed to 1600. Like others have said, for the street I like small apertures and fast shutter speeds.

Legacy 400 which is really Neopan 400, at Freestyle for under $2 per roll. Processed in DDX for full 400 speed. A tighter grain than TX, and clearer film base. It also looks good in Rodinal, 1:40 or so, but drops the asa to 200.

To get the highest shutter speed, I prefer films that I can shoot at EI400 or higher, since I tend to scale focus a lot at f5.6-f8 and the lighting conditions vary. Otherwise, I see no particular reason for one film over another for street shooting.

This is as close to a perfect answer as you can get, given the vague question. It's also been my experience as well after quite a few years of shooting (street and otherwise).

Polypan f. Cheap and nice tones. Shoot at 100asa all you like and focus properly 🙂

The best B&W film for street is all the films available in the market, given me Delta or Acros or TMAX ot TriX or HP5+ or Rollei or Agfa or Beta or Ben10 i will do fine with all if i know how to expose/develop/scan.

The best film is Tri-X. No other film is that capable and permissive... Other ISO400 films are close, but Tri-X can be exposed, depending on the light, from 100 to 1600, and it's also really forgiving, and very sharp in Rodinal.

If I'm carrying (say) five rolls of Tri-X apart from the rolls loaded in my cameras, I carry a couple of ISO100 film rolls too, to be able to shoot easily on direct sun and use wider apertures...

Except for Kodak P3200 (bought anywhere I find it far from expiration), I buy from Freestyle: most rolls in my orders are AristaPremium400 (Kodak Tri-X), and they come home with just a bit of LegacyPro100 (Fuji Acros).
