Hi!
I have a Canon 7 that will only show the 35 frameline. I have not tried to repair this yet. Has anyone here heard of a similiar problem. Is it fixable or do i have to get another 7 for parts.

Sounds like something is stuck in the viewfinder. I've never taken apart a Canon 7 so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'm thinking that a repair would be relatively simple. Of course it means you have to take off the top plate to access the viewfinder mechanism. Any good repair tech can do this. You could probably do it yourself if you had a repair manual and the tools.

Even if you turn the knob it stays stuck on 35? Might as well have it cleaned at the same time. Used Canon 7's are selling for about $300 on Buy Now on Ebay. I would say purchase a new one if the older one can't work or if it costs too much.

I just had my Canon 7 and 50mm/1.4 serviced my Mark Hama (CLA on both + light seals), cost was very reasonable. I think you could consider sending to him. Turnaround was just a bit more than two weeks.

It's black and needs a CLA anyway.

Now -that- is a georgeous Black 7, and you will love the 35mm F1.5!
Send it to Mark Hama or Essex Camera Repair for a full CLA.
You will not be sorry.

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, i can turn the knob, but nothing happens with the framelines. I just bought this black 7 so i want it to be perfect, the slow speeds are sticky so it needs a cla anyways.

I've been looking around for a good repairman. I might try Mark Hama. He responded quickly to my email and it seems he has the parts to do it. The rangefinder needs to be aligned as well.
I'm shooting my first shots with the 35 and I'm developing this weekend.

What usually happens is that the frameline dial does not engage the lever which switdhes the framelines. Usually you can fix this quickly by removing the top cover and moving the switch so the 50mm frameline shows, then set the dial on the top cover, and carefully reinstall the top cover.
The only tricky part is removing the shutter speed dial before removing the top cover, you can do this more easily by setting the film speed to 400, and then setting the shutter speed to 1/15. This will allow the three set screws to line up. Back out the screws (don't remove them, they are tiny, and a little difficult to put back into place), then lift off the dial. The aperture value in the meter should show the orange f/2.8 setting. Then remove the set screws around the shutter button collar, the wind and rewind levers, and the screws holding on the top cover.
I love the Canon 7 cameras, and I also have a black one mounted with the big 50/.05, its alot of fun to shoot.
