Hello,
I have a Canon 7 rangefinder camera whose second curtain does not travel all the way when the mechanism is fired (I think). Some people have suggested oiling some shafts in the bottom mechanism. Do you think this could solve the problem? Here is a photo of the shutter once it's fired, as well as a test shot of a frame that shows this issue.

Do you have some experience doing camera repair? Do you have the tools?
The camera needs a clean-lube-adjust (CLA). This means cleaning old lubricants and grime out, and using the slightest amount of specialty light oil on some parts.
The Canon 7 is not a difficult camera to work on with the correct tools and instructions.

Yes, I've already done some camera repair, including cleaning the rangefinder on this very camera. What I lack is instructions! Thanks for the link to the manual—I already tried finding the solution there, but it doesn’t specify where to apply the lube nor the specific problem I have.![]()

See how slow the second curtain travels. It could just be the spring needs to be tightened. If the camera was left cocked for years that could do it. If that is the case tightening the spring should fix it. Probably wouldn't need much. You might need to tighten both to get it back into spec. Been a few years since I opened up a Canon 7. I have one that I completely rebuilt due to an error on my part cleaning it. So smoooooth now. Great cameras.
