I will be visiting Hong Kong and Shanghai from next Tuesday, HK Aug 23-30 and Shanghai Aug 30-Sep 6. Anyone around then who would be interested in meeting up for a drink or a shoot?

Are there any shops in Shanghai selling the Safrotto/Mekko "lookalike" Domke bags? I have one but washed it in the machine and it shrunk, so looking for another.

you should have a good chance to find some at 300 luban road (between line 4 metro station "luban road" and line 9 metro station "dapuqiao").
alternatively, see the photographic mall close to the northern railway station.

Hi Sebastel, is the photograpghic mall a good place to look for negative films at decent prices (eg Fuji Superia 200 RMB12.50 per roll, Kodak Ektar RMB30 per roll)? Cheers!

Lucky you - I love Hong Kong. I have not been to Shanghai though (but expect it would be great too.) Apart from the terrific harbour scenes in HK, I really loved shooting in Mongkok - both day and night the place is so frenetic, there are always interesting street scenes to shoot. Wish I were there again!

hi,
current prices according to taobao:
ektar is somewhere around 32 yuan per roll 135.
superia 200 is in the range 13 .. 18 yuan.
i usually use lucky 200, which was 11 yuan per roll 4 weeks ago.
the prices at the shops should be at the same level.
concerning the X100: it has arrived in the shops in the meantime. recently, it was offered to me for 8200 yuan in one of the shops in luban lu. no idea whether this price includes fa piao - i did not ask, as i was not really interested.
cheers,

Thanks for the info! Spent most of today making the rounds of the shops. No bargains but amazing to see the Leica specialists at Lee Wai Commercial Building: Breguet, Nine Days and M&K. Also the two great shops at Tsim Sha Tsui Mansions and the many shops at Sim City in Mongkok. Bought some new Portra 400 in 135 and 120 to try, too bad I didn't bring a film camera this trip...8(

Many thanks for the price update. I stumbled into a photography shop in Shenzhen selling Fuji Superia for RMB12.50 per roll. Same price regardless of buying 1 roll or 10 rolls. Unfortunately they do not sell others, only Superia 200 & 400.

Does anyone know if Billingham gear is cheaper in HK or in Shanghai? Looking to pick up some pouches for my Hadley Pro.

I think with most things HK is cheaper than mainland China, otherwise why would all the Chinese tourists go there!

Not sure about your question but in Hong Kong I recall going to Sim City (5 story building full of small independent shops) in Shantung Street Mongkok. It is a mixture of electonics shops and camera shops and there are at least a couple selling Billingham bags. Its more for locals and you can bargain here and prices are generally better than in Nathan Road where they cater more for tourists. (I am sure others will have tips about their favourite locations to buy as well.) I have to say though that the prices were no better than eBay. (Still much better than Australian retail.)

Found a cool little photo book shop in IFC centre, 3rd floor, next to the Bookazine. Picked up a copy of Egglestone's Guide which is now unavailable from Amazon.

They're also carrying the Wotancraft range of camera bags, some are really nice but expensive. They don't have the holsters and M9ti-style sling carriers though.

Hahah! BTW, there's a surplus of those X100 cameras here in Bangkok. Are they still hard to find elsewhere?
