Kit lens love!

After buying my E-P1 I have mostly shot it with the 17 and assorted legacy lenses (mostly my Color-Skopar 50), but a couple weeks ago I inexplicably started shooting the Oly 14-42 on it. Glued it to f8 and mounted my camera on a very small tripod (IS on) and went shooting away. Results have been excellent. As someone who has primarily shot primes my whole life this is a huge change, but interesting experiment... and I'm liking it.

The kit lenses that came with the Pen series are all outstanding.
The only problem is when you need to open up beyond f/3.5, that's all.

But for the size, it goes with me everywhere even though I use the 20mm/1.7 most of the time.

Now I'm so ready for Olympus to come up with a 17mm (36mm equiv.) fast prime lens. Or maybe the 12mm f2 when it becomes cheaper.

Agreed. I didn't think I'd really like the kit lens that much with my E-PL2, but slowly, I'm realising that though I'm a bit of a prime lens snob, and even though the plastic build of the kit zoom is a bit off-putting, it's actually quite the performer!

Pancake, busy with other projects, but will post a bunch of kit lens photos when I get to the sets that I've used it for.

One thing I've determined is that as good as it is, the Oly 14-42 suffers flare issues. Just bought a rubber hood for mine.

Oh yeah, and that little Panny pancake zoom looks like a sweet little zoom... I'd wait till you can compare with those, even though it would be a lot more expensive than a used kit zoom.
