They swerve toward ridiculous hyperbole, though. As if they've never seen a camera that wasn't a compact/P&S. This 2/3" sensor is "huge," and the f2 lens is "super fast." Relative to the 'class,' maybe, re: the f2, but a 2/3" sensor is still tiny, and with the NEX at the same size (or smaller), the 'class' has been re-defined.
Who said it's "ugly?" That little video on the Fuji site makes it look like a mini Leica MP. Pretty sweet.

On the video by the two Fuji reps, they say viewfinder coverage is... 85%!
I haven't checked to see how that compares to the Canon G or Nikon P-whatzit, but to the audience to which this should appeal, 85% does not sound good. One of the two guys does say this viewfinder is the very best optical vf in the class, but even if it's 25% better than the Canon, that's not saying much.
Well, the canon and the nikons are the same way. The X100's OVF is only 90%.

If you've ever held a Canon G or a Nikon P-whatever up to your eyes you'd know that the 'optical' finder on those is utterly useless. My Olympus epic/mju has a better finder.
Frankly, any camera in this category that has a proper optical viewfinder will blow Canon's and Nikon's offerings out of the water - even at 85% coverage.

the question i have is...how would this x10 compare to my 6mp rd1 and my cv lenses?
if i could get similar quality from 2 small, lightweight cameras...one specializing in the 35 mm fov and the other offering a semi wide 28 and up to a good 100mm fov (112 actually)...that would be pretty nice.

I don't know about quality per se, but interchangeable lens cameras, be they digital or film, gives you the advantage of getting different looks from different lenses. I did regret using "advantage" as soon as I typed it, because the argument the other way is that an excellent single lens on a camera designed with that one lens in mind may have the advantage.

Yeah, the minute I stopped drooling over the release notes, I thought, "I bet Hugo Poon will be shooting one of these any minute now".
I think that the X100 hypestorm has taught us to approach these new cameras with more balanced expectations. Sure, it has a 2/3" EXR sensor, but exactly how much better would it be than a current camera like the Pana LX5, Canon G12 or Ricoh GRD III?
If it is like a completely updated Panasonic LC1/Leica Digilux 2, then that might be a good thing. The similarities of design and features make me wonder if the LC1/D2 was an inspiration to the Fuji design team. The handling looks like it would be good, and if the image quality is at least as good, hopefully better than, the current high end small sensor cameras, then I think it will be a winner.
It's certainly not a S95 competitor, as it is much bigger. Much more of a G12 or Nikon P-whatever competitor.

The main thing it's got going for it is obviously the optical viewfinder. The sensor doesn't have to be better than the competition. By now most compact cameras have a decent sensor but I still don't know why even the cheapest P&S cameras of the 90s have optical viewfinders that put the likes of the Canon G12 to shame.
I'm actually quite interested in this camera, much more than I am in the X100. Sure, the X100 looks like it's a very nice camera but I already have a 'serious' digital camera. This one could be a very nice carry (almost) everywhere P&S. Not exactly pocketable but still quite compact.
Sure, the Digilux and the X10 have some similarities in design but that's really not surprising since both are obviously inspired by the classic rangefinder design.

X10:
- 2/3" sensor
- mechanical zoom lens

Those features are what I think make them similar, not just the classic rangefinder design.
I also hope that movie quality is decent, at least on a par with other high end compacts like the Pana LX5 or Canon S95.
Not that long ago I used a Canon G10 and a Sigma DP1 as a go-anywhere combo. That could be replaced by a Fuji X10 and a Ricoh GXR + 28mm module if the new Fuji is up to scratch.

There's something wrong with this picture. The camera has a portrait shaped viewfinder here and it's square in the original post.

Unless Fuji manufactures 100% of the camera, one will never know. Everything nowadays is outsourced by just about everyone, including the outsourcing.

My thoughts exactly, but mainly after seeing the expected pricing. Seeing as you can get the LX5 for $400 in the US now, the feature bump in the X10 is not worth the difference in price to me. Plus, I really like the 24mm lens in the LX5. This is not to say the X10 is not a very attractive camera with a great set of features...
