Will 'goggled' 35 Summaron work w/ my M6 TTL?

Hi Guys,
I just bought what is likely a 'goggled' 1956-1960 SOONC-MW or SOMWO w/ a bayonet mount. The front ring says, 'Ernst Leitz GmbH Wetzlar, Summaron f=3.5 cm 1:3.5 Nr. 1361551'. After mounting it to the M6, I looked through the viewfinder and I could perform focusing. What I'd like to know is whether correct focusing actually occurs when I perform focusing through the view finder. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Yes, correct focussing will occur. You will note the 50mm frameline is engaged, but the goggles mean that the 35mm field of view will be contained within them (although in my experience, the framelines are a lot tighter than the normal 35mm framelines on an M6).

i have both M3 and M2 with first version 35mm summicron.
and i can tell you that your M2 magnification will go down.

if you use it on a M3, the 0.91 finder will go down to around 0.72
so for M2, the 0.72 finder will go down to around 0.58

its less comfortable, in my opinion.

Thank you all for commenting. When i got this Summaron, i even thought of removing the 'goggles' from the lens body. Has anyone tried this? What will happen if i do?

Focus will be off.

What Raid says.

Can't remove the goggles without having the lens elements re-set in the barrel, effectively a new lens because it would have to be stripped and rebuild and would be expensive. Anyone would advise against it, much easier and even cheaper to buy a non-goggled version.

IMHO this lens works nicest on an M3 or an M6 0.85.

... what Johan said ... or get an external 35mm VF and use the goggled version. Compose with the external (very bright) VF, and then focus with the camera and the goggled lens. Some people complain about the lack of clarity in the camera VF with goggled lenses.

I have the 2.8 version that I use on my M3, and I like it a lot. The goggles do flare very easily. Doesn't mean the lens is flaring. I think you'd like the non-goggled version better.
I'd like to start a campaign here and now to get people to stop hacking and filing and modifying these Leica lenses. If you don't want the goggled lens, sell it and buy one that is not goggled. I fear that the supply of goggled lenses will suffer from all this ineffective modification.

Vics - Since you have the 2.8 version, may I ask...with it removed from the camera, does yours have some black oily substance on the surface of shiny black 'hold-down' rings. Mine does have what looks like oily residue when I ran a cloth patch on it. Could this be from some gasket peice? Or factory oil? So my question is if this black substance is native to or should not be present as it may introduce oil into my camera when mounted. Please advise and thank you.
