Got the view camera out.
Got all the kit prepared.
Got psyched up to get up early and shoot photos of the fall colours

....then slept in.

Aaargh.....

Now the kids are up, and the merry-go-round of family life is upon me again

That's why the view camera gathers dust.

How do you combat this, and actually get out to shoot?

Discipline? Habit?

Sense of urgency (can be as crazy as telling yourself this may be my last chance to shoot because I'm gonna die real soon)?

Painful recognition of the lack of quality in my portfolio (need to work on skills, subjects, etc)?

Take time off from any shooting at all and see if the drive to shoot improves?
 
Relax and enjoy the family. Before you know it the kids will be grown up and gone but the view camera will still be there. Or, use it to take some family photos. Let the kids use it to take some of you. They probably don't have many photos of you.

If life feels a little crazy remember that insanity is inherited. We get it from our children. Good Luck. Joe

Seriously, shoot some LF portraits. One of my favorite family images is of my wife and our 6 mo old son shot with my first 810 on the day I got it. LF is a young mans game if you're working outside- I know I really feel it the next day when I try and carry that dang tripod any distance. Shoot what you live.
 
After being either unable or too lazy to get out with the 4x5, I finally made it today. I have no children at home, so it's a bit easier, but still I procrastinated all summer.

I agree with sepiareverb ... shoot something easily approachable, even if it's just one sheet. It's a start.

I did get out to the park, and shot with a Hasselblad 203FE. Got some nice photos to send off to process.
 
Cut down some paper to 5x4 and get the younger members of the family involved in shooting, processing and contact-printing the pictures under a safelight, so they can see what's going on? That might only work once though. :)
 
there are beautiful colors in the day and the evening too!

take your kids with you. get them involved. maybe they can have their own cameras or help you with yours.

Lucky guy. The light is good all day in the north this time of year. I know, I'm in Seattle. Our light is nice now here even at noon. Well, when we have some light. lol

For the kids?
 
Put your alarm clock too far away from your bed to reach it. No sleeping in when the thing yells at you until you stand up
 
I ended up here today (not my site/photos) parked at the end of the road (2nd photo) and made one exposure. I'll be going back.
