Looks like Leica no longer has the market leader position in the market of amazingly ugly limited editions of cameras for outrageous prices.
Here is the Sigma SD1 "Wood Edition", limited to 10 pieces, available from Sigma Germany for the paltry sum of 9,999 EUR:

That was my first thought as well.

Sigma and Luxury just seems like the ultimate oxymoron.

I just hope they don't come up with the Morning Glory edition.

Yeah. I see Sigma as a kind of budget brand. An image they are very much trying to change. Good for them because they do make some nice lenses.
But the "wood edition" doesn't even look genuine. It looks like a cover of some sort. It should be that the body is made out of wood instead of metal. That would be interesting.

Sigma is making some really nice lenses nowadays - their 12-24mm, 50mm f1.4 'sigmalux' and 85mm f1.4 all especially come to mind. I own the 50mm sigmalux and it's a seriously stonking 50 - one of the best out there!
That being said, this luxury edition is... ew. I would love an SD1 though! (just wouldn't love to pay that much for it)

Just because a company makes great lenses doesn't mean they are a luxury brand.

Darkroom printing lives
If it has a full-frame foveon sensor inside, I might be okay with it
Note to Sigma designers, polished wood for accents spells 'luxury', the way you are doing it now, spells 'gaudy'.

True, it's ugly, but for €9'990 I might consider walking around with this (if only around the house). Does Sigma pay out in cash or cheque?

I think Sigma is unfairly considered a budget brand, the DP-1 is a remarkable camera, a sensor that size in such a small camera, and the lens is superb too. They're also one of the few companies actually looking to mix things up a bit with Foveon, the SD-1 etc. The SD-15 is also nice, and is actually a stills camera, Sigma don't seem too bothered about HD video and other bolt-ons.
That camera is pretty hideous though.

I have never liked wood accents in car interiors, less so wood-like decals. People who like real wood live in log houses. Cars are technological products, so are digital cameras. Wooden view camera is OK, digital camera is not OK.

That is hideous, and looks just like a wood-effect plastic case around the body. Laughable, really. Still, the standard SD-1 is so expensive, this isn't actually a big mark-up for a 10-piece limited edition.

Their equipment finish feels cheap, their design is lacking, their sensor sizes are wanting (for the same "in class" stuff), and they turned me off many years ago with their incredibly slow focusing mechanism.
I had a few Sigma lenses, and they were nice image-wise...but manual focusing was much faster. And I don't like to carry around a lens that feels like it's going to fall apart (which is what I do with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 Mark-II; if I need it I take the Mark-I lens).

It'll look great sitting in the fur-lined glove box of my Maserati! Oh... wait... I'm not sure the Amboyna Burl is going to look so hot next to the Quattroporte's Polished Wenge. D**m. Gotta get in touch with Sigma...

I think the wood could actually look nice if it was just on the front and not as polished

Well, their current HSM 'EX' glass focusses silently and super quick, and they no longer use the yucky sigma crinkle finish on their lenses - now it's a smooth matte plastic - much nicer. My 50mm f1.4 sigma is built quite nicely. Certainly much nicer than the canon or nikon equivalents.
