Abandoned ranch house

This abandoned house of stone sits on a ranch along US-54 between Vaughn and Santa Rosa in central New Mexico. I stopped here on the way home, as a storm gathered in the sky above. I photographed the house, then turned around to photograph the even darker sky behind me. Just as I put my equipment back in the car, the clouds unleashed a heavy downpour on the desert!

I almost lived in something similar at the most southern tip of the island of Bonaire. It was the ruin of the lighthouse keepers house. These thick walls keep the climate inside constant.

I googled that island (didn't know where it was) and found a photo of a lighthouse keeper's house with no roof! Was that where you lived??

Find subjects like this quite often in Eastern Oregon. Primary difference, usually not rock walls. Generally wood. However, settlers often made their fences by stacking the millions of rocks they removed from their land in order to be able to farm. Many thousands of feet of stone walls two feet wide and 3-4 feet high.

Yep I lived on that island in 1990 - 1991 and in 2000 - 2005 worked fist as a diving instructor later managed a dive center. Also my underwater photography business :angel:

This is a Moray Eel, isn't it? Those *******s are pretty nasty tempered! I would not have gotten so close!

Nah that was a small one. Either way you should not corner them... If you go trough my images you will se some huge Green Moray Eels. And I mean +15ft long and a foot in diameter. Better check a cave or space in a wreck first before entering. Don't want to be with one of those stuck in a closet 😱😱😱

Another cool shot Chris. I think it was probably once a sturdy little ranch house. Who knows what became of it and its inhabitants - sort of makes one reflect.

Better check a cave or space in a wreck first before entering. Don't want to be with one of those stuck in a closet 😱😱😱
