This lens seems to have all the aberations of pre-WWI lenses. You get comparable effects if you smear some vaselin on your lenses

I've used one of those Zunow lenses and I never got those effects wide open.
I would guess one of the elements is decentered, loose, or there is some other problem with the lens.
What happens when you stop down to f5.6 or so? Is everything sharp or do you have uneven fields of focus?

I have had used other 50/1.1 before, they all wild bokeh when it is wide open.
This lens is in pristine condition as far as I can tell

Good to see something out of the norm. Not sure I love it, but it is interesting. 🙂

Wow guys … what a bashing ;-)
Great shots btw Andrew - I have been there and nailing focus with this lens, especially with the first shot is a skill on it's own not many have.
I really like the first frame, the freaky oof effects work very well for me, to emphasize the chaotic packing of the freight and the effort necessary, to move the lorry.
For the shocked people here in the thread, every thing with the rendering of this lens is totally fine.
The scenes, it has been used have been bright sun lit scenes with lots of small light particles breaking through leaves or reflected.
Any old super fast lens of this vintage will show similar effects. The Zunow really boosts these up visually - interesting effects ;-)
It would be very interesting, to see a Zunow 1.1, Nikkor 50 1.1, Canon 0.95, Leitz 50 1.2 comparison with such subjects.

Dirk, such comparison being done already, the Zunow has the wildest bokeh wide open. It is not for everyone, you either like it or you hate it.

Yes, this is shot @ 1.4 to show that the lens is not defected as some may have suggest. I guess it is just a matter of taste and as you know, I love old lens much more than modern lens.
