Hi,
This is a question for anyone who has the EVF for the NEX5N. Is it possible to have the camera screen permanently turned off, so that when you turn the camera on, only the EVF comes on?
Thanks for any responses!

Yes and no.
There is a possibility to switch between the two "finders" manually - and if EVF is selected so, only a short blink will be on LCD.

Thanks Nemjo. Yes I saw that button on the side of the finder, but I am still not clear. If I set the camera to EVF, and then I turn it off, when it wakes up, will it default to LCD, or will it remember that it was set to EVF?
Thanks
Thanks

It remembers that it is set to EVF. The LCD screen will not come on.

and it will switch automatically to the EVF if you put it up to your eye.

I suppose really I like my film cameras, so I don't ever like the LCD on, and I always want to be able to put it to my eye and see something. Sounds like this will be possible.

Yeah, but you know that we are a dying breed. The other day on an outing with my boy (3), and after I took a photo with my 1950's film camera, he asked me why we couldn't see the picture on the back of the camera

Yes, I have the same situation. My kids, 8 and nearly 3, are delighted with the Nex, because they like to see themselves on the back of the camera.

There is a menu option for toggle evf/lcd == manual/auto.
If you select manual you can turn off the lcd and just use the evf.
There is another option, you can enable(disabled by default) 'Info Display' mode for one of the LCD display option. That way, the LCD will display your settings in big info boxes, and EVF will be your dedicated VF.

Thanks. I have had the EVF for a few days now. It has turned the NEX from being a computer with a lens into a CAMERA. What a great camera it is too!

Cheers! I love mine too. Only problem is it's hard to fit in a bag with the evf on. :bang:

Yes, that's very true. I blame the bag!

Yeah, I was lucky that the NEX-5N just fits in my bag with the EVF attached.
FWIW, I'd say the EVF is the modern equivalent of a DSLR OVF, and the flip up LCD is the modern equivalent of a Hasselblad waist level finder, so neither seems more computer-ish to me. Both are modern interpretations of optical finders, IMO.
