guns allowed, cameras not

don't worry, if you go to a top university you'll see that that is already the case.

I'm going to work for two years or so since I just got out of school and don't have the money nor a sponsorship for a visa and then start applying like crazy to jobs in Canada, Sweden, Norway, South Korea, Japan and even Hong Kong.

I used to think, "hey this is my country too" but I'll go live with the horses before I stay here long term.

Wisconson is a perfect example of why I'm leaving. Everyone goes and protests some obviously heinous law and then when it comes time to vote no one even shows up. What a joke. If you want to know why I have zero faith in the Occupy Wall Street crowd there is your answer.

America is very quickly advancing itself backwards into the 1890s and it's this mentality that is causing it.

It's the idea that we, as Americans, are never wrong. To question our superiority is to question God Himself. To suggest that self-betterment and science are answers is sacrilege.

So yes, I will take my **** and leave. And not a second too soon. I'll even take a pay cut as long as it's enough to live and buy some film and chemicals.

Go ahead and think America is great. It's already second-world for about 90% of the population when it comes to things like health care, internet access, nutrition, education and general welfare. And yet, America is number 1. Not sure what we're number 1 at though, maybe sending people to heaven in ole' sparky.

I think you really need to travel, A lot.

Start with South America. A lot of Horses there you can talk to.

you assume that I haven't.

I happen to understand that every country has drawbacks but most are easier to reconcile than some **** that happens in America.

Other countries get better because even though they'd like to they don't ignore their problems so much. America gets worse because it's a badge of pride to be ignorant here.

This country started going backwards socially in the 80s and never stopped. What's the point of having all this money if living here sucks?

Now consider a simple phrase: "in the wrong hands."

Which will do more harm in the wrong hands: guns or cameras? Indeed, what might one mean by cameras "in the wrong hands"? The only examples that spring to mind are (which most people find less offensive than killing people) and the fear that people may actually find out what's really going on in a given country or place. Quite a lot of people have things to hide, or have a very exaggerated idea of their own importance and dignity, and therefore HATE cameras.

Cheers,

R.[/quote]

Here are just 4 examples of cameras in wrong hands.
1 - Child pornography.
2 - Snuff films.
3 - Invasion of privacy / up skirts.
4 - Michel Moore
I'm sure I could come up with more, like a paparazzi.
For offset here are one million guns in the right hands.
1 – The United States military.

When will anyone learn that posting a sign that says "no guns allowed" means absolutely nothing to those intent on carnage?

You may feel safer protected by a sign, I feel better knowing that someone may have a concealed carry permit that will protect me when the terrorist or nut case goes on a shooting rampage.

I can give no logical reason why cameras may be prohibited, probably goes back to when people used flashes.

Highlight: Every single one of them? Lt. Calley and his men at My Lai?

Why is Michael Moore's camera 'in the wrong hands'? Because you don't like what he says? There are plenty who don't like what Fox News says either. For Moore: gross overstatement every few months/years? Sure. Right wing news media: gross overstatement every day? Surely not!

Up skirts. Yeah: really as bad as going postal. Come on! Get real!

Cheers,

R.

Ok, I’ll get real.
#3 is invasion of privacy. Here are 4 examples of cameras in perverted wrong hands, regarding privacy.

#1 - Female / male locker rooms.
#2 - Female / male toilets.
#3 - Through windows in a private homes.
#4 - Beaches.
Are they real enough.
Would you or anybody think these examples are innocent use of a camera?
If any pervert took compromising photos of any member of my family, I will be going postal big time, against that person.
You may think modesty is not important but I regard
( not myself so much ) it as a gross volition of human rights, especially when that person is not aware their being photographed .
As for Michael Moore, that was supposed to be tongue and cheek.
I do however think Moore is a opportunistic socialist.

Not from a socialist perspective. He's a mildly anarchic and somewhat repetitious product of the society in which he grew up. Socialist? Hardly. Also, what's actually wrong with socialism? Quite a lot of European countries have rather high standards of living thanks to some degree of socialism.

No, taking pictures in beaches isn't a real example of 'cameras in the wrong hands'. How could it be? Of course you can take unflattering pictures (which is a matter of common decency) -- but you can do that anywhere. But if you have a problem with being photographed on the beach -- well, it's your problem.

To a considerable extent, the same thing applies to locker rooms and toilets. You may regard it as bad taste. Fine. But how big a problem is it? How many toilet pictures are there? In fact, what's the actual problem with a toilet? We all use them. I mean, I am told that there are people who get off on women's shoes, or even on pictures of them. Are we supposed to take pictures that cut everyone off at the ankles because there are .000001% of people who might be sexually aroused?

Quite honestly, I'd much prefer being photographed having a pee to being shot. Which would you prefer?

Cheers,

R.

I'm just going to assume your pleasure of photographing genitalia would be with the persons consent.
I could care less what any adult consents to photographically.
I think your missing that point.
My concern is, creepy voyeuristic perverted parasites and dirty old men.
If you think they are a minor issue click,

Finally, how is that socialistic thingy working out for you in / Greece / Italy / France?

Eh? Who's photographing genitalia? You're the one who appears to be obsessed with them. I can't get as excited about all this as you can.

As for socialism, we're doing pretty well, actually, even by the standards of free-market fundamentalism. A euro is currently worth $1.36, as against $0.95 a year or so after the euro came in. In other words, the market thinks the Eurozone is doing better than the USA. Or at least, that it's not doing as badly.

Or if you prefer infant mortality figures, a good rough-and-ready measure of a country's health care system: France 3.29, USA 6.06 (deaths before the age of one year, per 1000 live births). Greece, incidentally, is 5.0. Those are CIA figures: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2091rank.html.

What criteria would you like to use?

Yes, it's a lot harder to get a pistol permit here than in the USA (to return to the topic of the thread), but once again, I can't get very excited about that. Permits for hunting guns require attendance at a course, and registration, but are easy to get: there are plenty of hunters where I live.

The only reason the euro will survive is because the US and China will bail it out. The world currency is still the dollar.

How is Capitalism working out for America?

China's GDP growth rate was 3 times the US' last year. Guess socialism really is the best huehuehue.

China needs robotic cheep labor, they just allowed a family to have one more child, I bet that excites you.
The US demand for cheep stuff is the only reason China has cash.
China is a morally bankrupt country. Beers

Then why is the dollar so weak?

Sorry, you're believing what you want to believe, and twisting the facts to suit your world picture. A Briton of 100 years ago would have been equally gung-ho about the pound sterling -- which was then about $4.80, as I recall.

Could you possibly try to argue without gratuitous insults? So far you've made weird comments about my photographing genitalia and about redisburning being 'excited' in the quote above.

I realize, of course, that if you rely solely on logical argument instead of insults you may find yourself at a disadvantage.

Capitalism worked great until we started adopting European socialist policies.

So how are Greece, Spain, Italy, Ireland, etc doing? Well huh?

Well, arguably better than the USA is doing out of their brand of capitalism. As I said, look at the value of the dollar. EVEN with the current PIIGS crisis. And at infant mortality.

Cheers,

R.
