OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

Yesterday I got a 2-13 off eBay for just 39€ (incl. mail).
Cannot wait to get it this week!
Really eager to see whether it does make that big a difference.
I will report back to the mothership. ;)

I'll simply ignore the inner voice that reminds me of my vow not to buy any camera related merchandise for a while...

LUCKY!
I've been looking for one for a while now...had a 2-4 screen but didn't like it in my OM-2n. Now that I have an OM-4T, wish I had it back :)

Curious as to why you didn't like the 2-4 screen in an OM-2n, as it is fabulous in an OM-4T and it blows the viewfinder of an OM-1 or OM-2 with a 1-series screen into the weeds. I do have a 2-13 screen with a filed down tab that will fit in one of my OM-2n bodies. I guess I'll have to try it.

there is some brilliant work in here! I hope to be picking up my om-2n (from home - as I left it in a rush to travel interstate for work) for some shooting next week!

hopefully I can add a picture or two!

I'm a little worried that now I have an OM-1, OM-2 and OM-4 I'm already musing over the possibility of getting an OM-3 at some stage.

There's no hope it seems for the genuine 'Zuikoholic!'

It all seemed so harmless when I bought that first $50.00 OM-2 from eBay one night, several years ago! :p

Had a moment of Zuiko GAS recently. Found a little known wide lens for my zuiko quite by chance on the fleabay. It's a Spiratone f3.2 18mm. I beleive Spiratone sourced their 18mm f3.2 lenses from Sigma and later the f3.5 from Tokina but I could be wrong. The Tokina version would have been a nice one to get because it probably would have had some nicer multi coating but I was happy with the perfectly clean optics and very fancy spiratone 72mm polarizer that came with it which had a little metal post to turn the filter - very retro! Anyhow, it's very wide, I mean really wide, for me anyway and considering how little I use ultra wides I'm quite happy at spending less than $150 on it including the polarizer. Will put up some images once I develop the test roll.

I'm curious to see samples as well. I have a Tokina 17mm f3.5, but have never used it with any of my OM bodies.

Yep that's the one I read about. Spiratone had good success with the Sigma version and then labelled the Tokina one as 18mm even though it was a 17. something like that. not sure how accurate that information was but it sounds plausable.

When I got the screen, it was not in described condition. A rather annoying scratch ran right through the centre of the screen on the upper half above the focussing split-image.
Anyhow, it's very usable and got another 10 bucks cheaper for me. I suppose, a B-C condition 2-13 for 29€ is not so bad.
LUCKY!

After having done some rudimentary comparison between the 2-13 (in the OM-4 Ti w/ 40/2.0) versus a 1-13 (in my OM-1 w/ 50/1.8), I did notice a difference in brightness of the screen.
While definitely recognizable, I wouldn't consider it worlds apart.
(Probably enough to throw off an OM-2's meter, though. But I couldn't testify due to a lack of OM-2s... now, there's an idea. :D)
If you consider the screen for its brightness alone, I would not spend 100+ Euros (prices which seem realistic from my previous experience).
Now, where I could see a definite and remarkable difference is the microprism collar around the split-image. Here, the microprism is much, much finer than the one found on the 1-13.
My verdict (for now) would be: If you can get a fair deal, say 30-60€ depending on condition, go for it.
I'd suggest you try having a look through someone else's 2-13 viewfinder before you spend 80-120€ on such a screen.

Of course, this is just my opinion and I have yet to "field test" the screen properly.

Me in Croatia recently. Will post the images taken once I'm back home.

JSU, thanks for the heads up on that polarizer. I'll still give it a try though. I'll do a side by side test if I get the chance. Plenty of bright sun and water around Sydney Harbour at the moment. Will see if I can borrow an nd grad too.

I remember that night well, and I have been constantly amused ever since. :p

It's funny how a particular camera will capture your imagination. I remember reading all the fluff about how good the OMs were and thinking if any SLR can get mentioned on an RF forum as regularly as this one does then there has to be something special going on!

I may seriously need to think about getting Maitani's children their own cabinet at some stage.

:p

Maybe due to inconsistent metering. The OM2 (& OM2n) do manual metering off the screen and auto exposure metering off the shutter curtain.

If the screen is noticeably brighter such as a 2 series screen, it will skew the meter for manual exposures. If you adjust the ISO dial or the exposure compensation, then AE use will be off.

This might be an adjustment that John Hermanson could correct.

Nope. Didn't like it because the viewfinder of the OM-1/2 does not have as much contrast as the OM-3/4. Makes it darn near impossible to tell when anything is in focus, especially with a wide angle lens. I much prefer the 1-4n screen in an OM-1/2. The 1-4n screen is pretty nice in an OM-4T for that matter.
