Since RFF moved to new servers an changes to the site are underway (as I understand), how about implementing a like button? This way one could quickly express approval of a post's or comment's content without having to open a new comment containing a quote.

LUF recently implemented a "Thanks" button, which I find rather handy. What do RFF users and maintenance staff think about this?

EDIT: There seems to be common misunderstanding of the idea. I do not mean to implement a button than interacts with facebook, but a RFF-proprietary like button that operates solely within RFF.

The Facebook "Like" button pretty much stomps on privacy - it allows Facebook to track every user viewing any page embedding it, whether he's a Facebook member or not, and without giving him any option to consent or refuse.

Personally I could care less, as I'm on Facebook, and sort of "officially" here - hanging out on forums is among the permitted activities for journalists, and being self-employed I don't have to account for my time. But among our members there are plenty of people visiting their hobby pages from work, and even some visiting from countries where taking/viewing pictures of the kind sometimes posted here is frowned upon or could get them into trouble - it cannot be in their interest to enable such a broad scale page tracking. As these members may find it hard to object in public, it is up to us to say NO!

No no no, you got me wrong - I didn't mean to implement a facebook like button, but an RFF like button. Simply a button you press - like a like button - to express your consent on the previous poster's comment. Take a look at LUF to see what I mean.

Neither does quoting a comment and commenting on the quote that one agrees - except for cramming up threads and making them hard to follow.

No, I didn't, but I don't find they do quite the job of an "consent" (as I would like to call it to remain politically correct) button. Also, you still have to add a new comment and type at least 10 characters.
 
The "Like" or "Thanks" buttons are in principle harmless - as long as the status of the thread does not get updated (like after placing an answer or voting in a poll) as that would make the List of latest threads a mess.

Should these buttons be implemented, then I would like to see their counterparts too something like: "Dislike" and "Useless". To make it more interesting 😛

Seriously - this forum offers pretty much everything one (I) needs - the Tapatalk would be something of interest though.
 
We trialled this system on my from, the biggest bass guitar forum outside the US

We decided in the end that whilst a 'like' only buttom was better than a 'like OR dislike' system, having none at all was better because it encourages conversation and people end up backing up their agreement or disagreement with a message - which is why we are all here.

By facebookization I mean making it far too easy to express "like" so that in effect it becomes meaningless. If somebody can't be bothered to type 10 characters, or at least lean on the spacebar for a moment, well frankly I can't be bothered to care for their "opinion."

I can assure you that will not happen at RFF.

But thanks for making the suggestion,

we are looking for changes/improvements which we will start to implement incrementally, starting in January.
