It's not often that you get to revisit a scene with street photography. The subjects move, businesses change hands and a variety of other problems. Luckily enough for me, this guy set up in front of the same shop two years in a row. In 2010, I shot him with my Leica M3 and a 50mm summicron.
It's not a bad shot, but there's detritus and it's from a bit of a distance. An 8x10 crop would probably look fine. Robert Capa had it right when he said if the photo isn't good enough, you're not close enough. Here's a take from 2011 with my Rolleiflex. I think I did better this time. After a few years of shooting on the street for fun, I'm a lot less nervous to go up and photograph a subject when I want to.
