Just got myself a RD-1 
!! Totally new to the world of RF's however a long term SLR user. I got myself some bargain jupiter lenses to try out with it - however as many of you probably know these lenses back focus (compared to what is focus with the RF) unless used with a shim. I am thinking about getting some 'proper' glass - probably some voigtlander lenses. Would I be silly to assume these will focus perfectly or near enough, or are most lenses plagued by focus issues? I'm 99% sure it's the lenses and not the RF misadjusted (as the lenses seem to focus perfectly on infinity) so I'm really looking for a lens to 'calibrate' and confirm that my camera is ok!
If most lenses should be focussing fine, I'm off to get a nice 35mm voigtlander!!

p.s. Sorry if this seems like a silly post. It's just that in SLR world lenses back focus regularly if they're third party optics...and being new to the world of RF I didn't want to spend quite a lot on some lenses to find that focus issues are still the norm!

i have 2 rd1 bodies and about 5 cv lenses and they all play nicely together, never had a focus problem with any combo.

Sometimes the direction you focus from makes a difference in accuracy. Coming from infinity to close seems to work better for my camera.

I second the suggestion of mwooten.
And remember that quite often RF suffer from backslash focus.
If you miss the focus turning the focus ring, and you pass beyond the right focussing distance, you should not turn back the ring. Just reset the ring to infinity and restar again. If you simply turn it back, you should get focus issues.

Aside from a couple of RF misalignments, i have never got backlash or other focus issues with either R-D1 or R-D1s on my 20+ M lenses at the exception of two (Summicron-M 90/2 pre-asph & M-Rokkor 40/2) but i have the same problems with the M8.2.

Ok - so I should expect pretty much accurate focus if I change the jupiters for voigtlanders or leica glass? Also, another question - how does voigtlander / leica lenses feel to focus? The jupiter lenses feel really nice and very well damped, like a canon FD lens I used to have. Are the VC/Leica lenses similar or is the focus ring looser in general?

No problem with Leica or CV lenses normally but some second hand samples can be too stiff or too loose depending how much use they've got.
