Hey folks,

I just got an electro 35, mainly to have something I would be comfortable to carry at all times, and because it has a fast lens. The camera is lovely, very crisp viewfinder, basic operation seems good (I need to finish and develop a test roll, though, shouldn't say that yet!)

One immediate disappointment - during my initial playing around, I saw the VF frame "snap" into position while changing to close focus, and now the parallax clearly is not working - the frame is frozen in one position.

Is that a difficult fix, is it worth bothering with? I hate to think that I will always be worrying about framing error, especially with such a nice VF to work with!

Thanks!

Randy

Looking at the camera from the front, there's a small wire spring mounted on a screw at the upper right of the VF frame mask. The top end of the spring hooks into a flat hook at the top right corner of the mask, and the other end slips--maybe is cemented--into a hole in the viewfinder frame at the right side of the mask. The spring tensions the frame so that it returns to bottom left. Maybe the spring is broken or has slipped off the hook at the top.

Thanks guys. I really like the camera, and while my test roll looks good, framing is off (I specifically tested that).

I may send to Mark Hama, since hopefully it will not cost too much to set right.

Definitely sounds like the spring. Should be a simple fix... How are the light seals?

I saw those, but to balance things up a little, I just got my Electro 35 CC back from Mark after a service. Good job, one week turnaround and no problem with email communications.

Russ, i saw no light leaks on my test roll, so honestly did not pay attention to the seals. That is something Mark should routinely check.

Dan, Riverdog, thanks for the warning/reassurance. I have had one experience with Mark last year, he got my camera + lens back to me in a reasonable time (I think he had them for about two weeks).

I will keep my fingers crossed I get it back soon.

Same here, three pieces of work over the past year, no problems. Actually talked with Mark on the phone once, he's a delightful guy.

Mark Hama got my electro GT back to me in LESS than two weeks!

It seems absolutely perfect, the parallax is back! It feels and sounds different - there is an additional soft click when you advance, which I think is supposed to be there and was NOT there before. The focussing feels smoother as well. I am anxious to run a roll through it.

The turnaround on that was outstanding!
