i can't remember...

i have been looking at images on flickr from both lenses and they both look pretty great.

i was thinking about selling the 28 and getting a 25 but now i'm not so sure.

I have been looking at both lenses for quite some time to use on my IIIf and finally bought a used 25/4 2 weeks ago, mainly because it was really cheap (with finder way cheaper than the 28 without). I also love the click stops for zone focussing on the 25. Can't compare it to the 28 but my first 2 rolls of slide film are currently in the lab - i will share as soon as i scanned them.

You'd most likely get a good price for the 28 as nobody seems to sell them lately. On the other hand, it only makes sense to sell it, if you really feel the need to go a bit wider. I doubt there will be a visiblel difference as far as image quality is concerned...

I have the 25 non-coupled CV, and the 28/3.5 and 35/2.5. I haven't been aware of any quality differences among the three. I simply select the one with the angle of view I want. Although since I'd rather have the RF coupling, the 28 gets more use. The 25 comes into play when I actually need that much width.

Can't answer that question since I haven't used that 25. But sample variation in both has been documented (and may be irrelevant).

I sold my 28 for a 24 and haven't looked back.

i might just be fretting over nothing...there seems to me to be a fairly significant difference in pov from 28 to 25...but having a 21 that i like...is a 25 and 21 too close to own both?
21 and 28 together makes more sense...

my advice would be to hang on to the 28 (even though I did send you a email offering to
buy it from you once :) )this lens seems to have a bit of a cult following and you will find it will not be too easy too replace should you change your mind. I have both.... love them both but if you have the 21 you probably don't need the 25

here is a couple of shots I did with the 25

also my avatar was shot with the 25

I still think 21 and 28 are good spacing (crop factor doesn't really change that), but if you have a real affinity for the 35mm equivalent FOV and are missing it, then I could see an argument for maybe dumping the 21 and 28 and getting the 25... and maybe supplementing the wide end with a 15?

However, it sounds like you've been getting along with the 21 and 28. So I'd just keep them.

Joe, don't sell the 28/3.5 unless you can't otherwise swing a 25/4 to try out. You'll have a tough time replacing it if you change your mind.

BTW, you were able to pick up a CV 21/4? How are you liking it so far? I just bought one, but haven't received it yet.

i seem to go through this every 6 months or so...should i or should i not get a 25?

i always settle on the 28 as it works best with my kit...

ari, i have had the 21 before...why i sold it is a mystery even to me. it is a perfect lens for the rd1...you can shoot from the hip or take the time for a considered composition.
i love it with the 40.

Hip shots is what I love about the 25, Joe...

No, actually, the click stop focus that lets me

take - hip shots - even from eye level.

Don't sell your 28/3.5 like I did. Or else you'll regret it like I did. Then you'll end up deciding you want another one like I did. Then you'll have to search obsessively for one like I did. Then you'll end up paying $50 more for one like I did.

In summary, don't do like I did.

rick, the 21 is great for hip shots as well...i just do the hyperfocal thing and shoot away...
imposter, i promise...i wont do like you done!

I had the 25/4 v1 and 28/3.5.

The later is superbly built, yet the uncoupled 25/4's click stops on helicoid is so handy that I wonder why so few lenses have this feature..

The 25/4 is feather-light at 80g. The 28/3.5 is similar sized but much heavier at 200g+.

Both are sharp, very contrary, like everyone stated. The 25/4 flares a lot, while the 28/3.5 is relatively flare-resistant.
