Contact Sheet: 15mins in Chinatown.

Today Saturday, I had an hour to spare today before I had to
pick up the wife and kids.

I was en route to Konota, a popular film processing shop, to
develop two rolls of XP2 and I had a third roll with only
15 frames exposed, so I thought to myself, drive to Chinatown
park and fire away a couple of shots so that I could develop all 3
rolls.

Altogether I expended 23 frames in about 15mins on this drizzly
day.

I had my trusty m6 with my WWII CZJ Sonnar with Yellow Filter.

I parked at Sago Lane and walked towards the temple.

The first shot was the better one, the second shot was too
confusing.

I like the 3rd Shot, I like the lady next to the statue, and to the
left was another lady waving her arms. But somehow the
picture couldn't come together.

The fourth shot was okay but I was a bit too late to focus on
framing.

The fifth shot was a okay shot but without any story, just as I
was walking off I peered again and saw this girl with a bandage,
and before she could spot me, I fired off a shot.

I walked a bit too fast and before I knew it I was at
Masjid Jamae Mosque at Mosque Street. (Frame 1, 2nd Strip)

I decided to park myself at Pagoda street, (Frame 2, 2nd Strip)
it was drizzling, but it was a funny f5.6 light (those
who use Sunny 16 know what I mean).

(I had removed the batteries in my M6 previously as I
found the LED a distraction. So mentally, I was going
at f4 (to compensate for the yellow filter) and 1/500.
But I was a bit paranoid as XP2 liked overexposure
more than underexposure, so I tried f4 and 1/500
and 1/250. )

There was a lot happening at this place, tourist
were streaming in and out, as well as devotees
who went to the temple to pray. I decided to shoot off
around 5 exposure. I like the last frame best,
even though it was a busy frame
with People, Signboard and Temple
competing for attention. I found it
interesting as people itself was obviously
3 stories, the man walking across,
the lady with the newspaper over her head
and the chinese couple with a stubborn
luggage bag.

Walking back to the car, I saw this man
stepping out of the temple (frame 2, Strip 3) ,
I managed to snap just one shot.

Frame 3 was difficult, after I clicked it,
i saw that I should have included the
road arrow. Frame 4 and 5 was experimenting
with different perspective.
Frame 6 was the chinese medical shop,
I chose f2 and 1/30. I focused on the
center subject.

I chose Strip 3 last image instead
of this strip frame 1. I felt that
this Strip 4 Frame 1 was not strong
compostion-wise.

Frame 2 was massively overexposed,
this was in a shop full of porcelain
cats and figurines.

Frame 3 and 4, I struggled to get a good
composition. I like the wet floor.

Last frame 5 was a wasted. If I had shot it
instead of trying to confirm
shadow details in the temple,
I would have captured the foreground man
praying and bowing with the joss sticks.
Oh well....

End of Roll of film, My 15 mins
was up and I rushed off to Konota
to get it developed.

thanks for an interesting walk through your ocntact sheet. I think this can often help everyone to learn far more than simply putting up the final select, even though that is what the world sees. The contacts tell the story of what you saw and how you were thinking. Even the failures have a point - sometimes they lead into something good, sometimes they show a train of thoght that didn't materialise and sometimes they are the aftermath of the one that got away - too late, not close enough etc.

A good read.
