I am doing some research before purchasing the CL, just wanted to find out how the CL shutter sound match up against the M4-P, M6 and Bessa R2A?

Yeah, it does sound a bit lighter in weight and higher pitched than my other M cameras. However, it became much quieter when I started carrying it in a Luigi half case. That really makes the Cl a sweet looking, feeling, handling and sounding set-up.

that would be the last thing you worried about. been a CL user for the last 7 years. out of greed, bought 2 CLs and 1 CLE over the years. fabulous little devils since day 1. i am hoping to find another CL hopefully in mint condition for collection which is rather hard to come by.

I compared my CL to a friend's M6 and they sounded exactly the same...

Edit : I now own the M6 and they sound really different. CL is much louder.

My CL sounds no louder than my M2's. All have been CLA'ed within 3 years. The Bessas I've had sounded more like shaking a tin can of bolts. For me, this was a big deal. YMMV and that's okay.

Like vrgard I think the half case is a must. Mine's a Zhou version and looks & feels excellent. The side slung Leica strap was a pain - irritating and potentially unstable. The shutter does sound different to an M (I think), but then an M sounds different to a iiif. I don't think the shutter sound would ever put me off, but the RF patch is a little difficult to see I find.

I've comapred my CL to an M6 and the M6 is not that much quieter, if at all. I do not understand these questions as any Leica is very noticably quieter than any other camera's shutter I've experinces including most leaf shutter cameras. Leica and Minolta did an excellent job in getting the CL up to Leica quality operationally including a very quiet shutter. I can not imagine a situation where it would ever be noticed in normal environments unless it is dead quiet and you are using it for clindestine activities.

I agree with those who say the CL is a little louder than a typical M or Barnack, but still quieter than most other cameras I've owned or handled. The CL is a wonderful little camera that, though I often dream of selling to put toward an M6, I can't seem to part with. It is light, relatively sturdy, and I love the metering on it. It used to give me crappy low light readings until I sent it to DAG for a CLA last summer, got a Zhou half case for it, and now it's a truly fantastic little camera that I am happy to own. There are a lot of banged up ones out there, but a good-working CL is a gem, in my opinion.
