i just deleted 5 flickr pages worth of photos,

Old pictures are fun to look at and compare today's preferences, skills and vision. I think, organizing using folders isn't bad idea. Anyway, there will be around 20 good pictures at the end of live, if one is happy.
 
Problem solved! I never post anything to public galleries.
No security or image theft issues, not getting lost amongst the mountains of crap that people put out there (no offence guys - just talking generally - you know what I mean). No trying to keep track of it. If people like my photos and I think they're good enough (the photos, not the people) I'll make a print for them. Don't even try to sell them. I'm the only one I'm trying to satisfy.
 
ever since I took my home page from web, been sort of stuck to Flickr, although its far from optimal. havent yet reach point to start deleting entire streams of photos. been hoping to see their face lift, but it seems to take forever...

That's why browsing old photo threads in this forum is so painful. There are one or two images that still work, and an endless stream of empty white rectangles where Flickr photos used to be.

Agreed.

There's a reason why Flickr calls it a "photostream." It's just a stream of images. If you wanna be selective, there's sets and collections (sets of sets) to improve the signal:noise.
 
i really need to clean out my flickr... it's just that to me even the crappy photos from years ago are memories that i may or may not have backed up elsewhere, so i'm afraid of deleting something irreplaceable?

but really, i should do some spring (or rather fall) cleaning myself.... lots of crappy old photos to delete and sets/collections to make/delete/reorganize.
 
Rather than deleting your junk photos, put them in a (flickr) set called "Junk Photos"

Peruse it once in a while, I bet it'd be rather educational.
 
lots of the ones i deleted were family-related shots that would not be of interest to anyone other than me and mine. all of the deleted flickr shots remain in my photobucket account.
 
I pruned my Flickr account recently too. I got rid of some older scans that aren't up to my current standards and also deleted others that didn't generate many views in an attempt to make the experience more worthwhile for anybody stopping by.
 
Once in a while I'll go through my contacts, favorites, and my own photostream to clear out anything irrelevant to me. I've deleted a lot in the past, sometimes, an entire account.
 
Or instead of deleting, just make them private so no one else can see them.

That way you have them archived, can bring them back if you ever change your mind, don't bring links to images you posted on websites, etc while at the same time you aren't showing them as part of your body of work there.
 
I'm going through my Lightroom archive to winnow it down, pick out what I want to re-edit, then I'm going to delete everything on Flickr and start over.

Would be nice if there were an easy way to have a Flickr that gets my dog pictures and random stuff, and one that was slightly more of a coherent body.
 
I've 375 private pages and it is all family back to when my kids were nill. So, mostly junk, but should my house burn down, there are some memories left.
