Hello all,

Just picked up an M2 with a serial number that indicates it was produced in 1965 (111XXXX). All the other M2s from this time appear to have a self-timer. Mine does not. Those with the same configuration (lever rewind/no self-timer) appear to be several years earlier. Curious if the self-timer was always standard during those final years of production or if this might have been a variation or special order. Obviously, it could be that the top plate is not original as this also has the quick load tulip installed.

Doesn't really matter in the long run as it's a good user. Just curious.

Thanks.

I recall there were always M2's offered with a self timer or not; just to be able to offer some lower cost alternatives to the M3. It has nothing to do with the production year. However button rewind was on the former models replaced later with lever rewind. With my M2's the button rewinds were with less than 1M serial number and the lever rewinds of over #1M.

Yes, Jonny, a great looking camera. Easily confused on the street with an MP or an M9-P. Great to have all that real estate free for hand-holding with a wrist strap.

I have used the self-timer on my M2 so seldom, if I were to get a second M2, I would be OK if it didn't have one. I bought mine around 1960 or so, #1019xxx. It was known as the "M2s" with the "s" meaning "self-timer."
